They move Carney to No.11, kilpatrick get midfield i think. Do we give league champs nothing these days! Should just call it team of the championship.

Rossfan

Team of the last 4....as has been for years.
2026 the year of the 9 Cups

seafoid

Would like to see Kobe get young player

Beirne might shade it.

League champs!?
Come on, teams have been trying to avoid getting to the league final for years, why would all-star places be reserved for league winners?

Only a Derry man would post that.  The league counts for eff all.

"It is not about putting what he did on a higher pedestal than Clifford's artistry. But when O'Donoghue went a long way towards matching him for scores and for efficiency in front of the posts, then the other things come in to play. And 13-0 in turnovers is a pretty stark stat

Clifford was a far more dangerous scoring threat than O'Donoghue throughout the season. If they want to start nitpicking at stats though, then lets look at how much Clifford scored from open play versus O'Donoghue, or how many frees Clifford won that resulted in scores.

Player of the year is about far more than scoring though or you'd just give it to the top scorer every year. That 13-0 turnover stat says it all for me. R O'D has to get it and by a country mile.

Player of the year being based on turnovers. Games gone ;)

Quote from: Goals_Will_Come on September 22, 2026, 01:48:54 PMDarren McCurry should have got a nomination. His performances against Mayo & Kerry are as good as anything seen this year.

Ah it's good to see GAABoard clause 3.1 in action once again...... I.e. no matter how highly rated, how effective, how influential a player is, someone from Tyrone will be along before too long to advise that they have one who is better.
Don't think he should get an All-Star but his performances were as good as anyone else offered and should have earned him a nomination.

Quote from: mackers on August 04, 2026, 11:28:21 AMPaudie Clifford can not be given an All Star.  The only game he played well in (due to injury obv) was the AI Final.
Was he not motm in semi? Shoe in for me. 2x Cliffords and the Mayo trio nailed on with one up for debate between Scully/Kilkenny or maybe Flynn
I wouldnt have Paudie Clifford getting an All Star either.
O'Donoghue, DClifford, McDonald, Beirne, Flynn & Scully.

Huge part of the game more so than ever under the new rules.

Mayo showed their full hand in the semi-final in regards to turnovers. Also showed that almost everything went through Ryan O'Donoghue

Yet Kerry didn't appear to do their homework at all and had the arrogance of thinking win midfield and the Clifford's will do the rest.

And it almost worked for them too! A 2 point effort dropping short was the difference of Mayo winning and the game going to extra time.

FWIW I would be shocked if ROD doesn't win player of the year.

seafoid

ROD had 13 tackles. There was no way he was losing that final. He imposed his will on it. He had the strongest character for the final Poty is who is the best on the biggest stage.
Pound for pound Clifford is obviously the best footballer but he didn't have the same influence on the game. It wasn't Kerry's day.
