Quote from: Baile Brigín 2 on October 08, 2026, 06:42:37 PMYou think two grand per player will improve the quality of Gaelic games?
Potentially. Same as any other grant to a sports person.
And Olympic hopeful being able to take 2 years off work to train full time is not the same as paying for a weekend break for a hurler.
You think an Olympic could take 2 years off on 8k?
What?

Some of the grants can start at 8K.

A pity it took Revenue intervention but good to see the GAA push back on the erosion of the amateur ethos. Based on what is reported it's an end of the excessive mileage and round sum expenses for players and managers/coaches unless counties are happy to pay the additional tax on same. The clear conclusion of having to pay tax on something is that you are PAYING someone - not reimbursing them. So clearly this is not allowed in an amateur organisation.

Will be interesting to see what the lad from Curry and his cabal come out with now. Let them take on the Revenue now.

Paul Flynn (a regular contributor) was on Second Captains last week discussing the AFL and got caught out a couple of times when he insisted on talking about reimbursement of expenses, but expressing a desire for those at the top (Clifford etc) to receive more. When queried about whether that would not amount to paying players, he hesitated and reverted to the reimbursement line.

Would HMRC touch this in the north?
