Yeah, some amount of dross in that squad.  When Utd come in for a player the teams in Europe rub their hands. They take the absolute piss in what they demand and Utd invariably will pay it.  Next they'll offer that player a ridiculous wage and length of deal.  Once they underperform, it is impossible to offload them with that wage tying the player to the club by the neck.

I would be concerned that the players that ETH has signed in the last window Mount and Amrabat can't even get in the team would indicate that he has given up the ghost on them already.  Eriksen while a good player previously simply cant play in a two man midfield he is god awful without the ball.

Quote from: Ed Ricketts on November 09, 2023, 12:19:28 AMWhatever about which two duds United decide to name at centre back for any given match, it's beyond mental that the club haven't managed to acquire a decent full back in well over a decade.

The two lads tonight are so painfully out of their depth at CL level. They're both 90% players. Look grand most of the time, and might even do several good things, but the other 10% is brain fart time. Brain farts that cost goals and lose games.

And unfortunately, United are full of similarly flakey boys. That's why there's no spine nor identity to this team - it's missing anything resembling a reliable, consistent core that maintains and drives standards. Putting that in place will take years. There are no short cuts - the club tried that with Varane and Casemiro and it's only made things worse. Everything is a mess.
Think thats harsh on Shaw who is decent when fit.  They have never really replaced G Nev on otherside.
Valencia was good for a while and Rafael was at times under Ferguson. Could honestly do with a new player in every position  on the pitch which is crazy to say.

This is the problem with no proper DOF in place, there is no strategy aligned to the style the Manager wants to play. Add that to chopping and changing manager every 18 months leads to the exact place the squad is in now.

It has been since they appointed Rannick, he knew the score with the squad and has made it pretty clear since his departure.

Until such times as they get a proper structure in place which has scouting, transfer policy and academy development all linked it will be a perpetual cycle of this.

Casemiro    - €70m - €40m
Wan-Bissaka - €55m - €25m
Maguire     - €87m - €20m
Sancho      - €85m - €32m
Martial     - €60m - €15m
Lindelof    - €35m - €18m
Van De Beek - €39m - €10m
Antony      - €95 - €50

Is that how much you'd get for used Mondeo in this day and age?!! Second-hand car trade gone mad!

Look-Up!

It just shows how good a manager Pep is. The standards never fall with him. Top players on top money who have won it all, still go out and prove their worth for him. Opposite at Utd, play out of their skins when contract up for renewal, drop tools when the money secured. I know it's a poor reflection on them but a manger out of his depth doesn't help. Ultimately it's down to him to get a tune out of them.

Yes but the club is run right with a proper recruitment and disposal process. Look at Cancelo, don't want to play? there's the door, move him on. Same with Gundogan, and others. Club doesn't miss a beat. Utd recruit a miss-mash of dung because they panic. They would nearly be better if they had no money at all. Antony was a perfect example of a panic buy after two early defeats when EtH took over. Same shit has gone on Since LVG. He signed a pile of wasters, including Martial who is still there!

Yeah good point there. Vicious cycle now teams know they're loaded and desperate so can charge what they like, players know they'll get a free pass to be shite and pick up a pay cheque

As Pep said himself after the recent derby.

"We are in the same direction, me, the CEO, the sporting directors, the chairman. That is why I think the club is so stable."

It's the very opposite at United most managers including Pep would struggle to get any more tune out of that current United squad than Ten Hag managed last season.

Before Pep won his first trophy Man City spent around 500 million on 14 signings on what was already strong and solid base at City.

On Mount I'd wonder how much of manager signing he was, De Beek was simliar when Ole was manager who didn't fit in and appeared more of board signing. Amrabat signing another example of how poor the club are ran, a late signing brought in on loan deal and was injured and then shoehorned into left back. He was good in World Cup on a calm and composed Morocco team it's no surprise that any new player coming from another country would be struggling to make an impact among the current chaos.

A win and clean sheet this afternoon against Luton side that drew and was close to beating Liverpool last Sunday.  Big chances not taken by Garnacho Hojlund 1st half and goal eventually arrived with unlikely scorer Lindelof on 59 minutes, after that Rashford wasted a big chance story of his season thus far.  More injuries added to already long injury list with Eriksen and hojlund going off.

Well I guess then that Man United should be favorites to beat Liverpool when they meet soon.

He's safe until Utd find a decent Manager. To sack a manager you have to have a decent replacement.
United have already done the Ralf Rangnick interim Manager gig, they can't go there so soon again.

Eddie Howe's Newcastle are behind Man United in the table going into the international break nobody will be calling for him to get sacked and it should be the same for Ten Hag.

Looks like some are expecting more than should expect with a less than great United squad that clearly overachieved last season plus aren't helped with injuries this season.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Howe's Newcastle don't role over  when they concede a goal. They are without two quality strikers among others at the minute who will regularly put the ball in the net also.
