You could just feel that game was going Tyrone's way, they missed 3 in a row as well in the last 5 mins.

Poor game, not unlike Armagh v Tyrone at the weekend, not much space anywhere and just a real intense hard tackling Ulster fight.

Derry filled them a bit

Quote from: OakLeaf on April 15, 2026, 08:57:20 PMShocking performance from a Derry team full of talented players. Slow as a cart horse throughout. Tyrone much more direct. Derry got what they deserved.

Agreed. Pretty much identical to last year, though a better Tyrone team last year

Newbridge Exile

Three years in a row now Derry have  been beat by Tyrone in the under 20s Tyrone were so much more direct in their attacking play and it paid off in the end

TyroneTam

Tyrone with no Ruairi McCullagh and Shay McDermott very quiet somehow pulled that out of the bag. Not the most talented team but they really dug in in that second half and showed immense character to get over the line.

Armagh18

Obviously not the be all and end all but the results against Cavan for us and Monaghan would suggest we've a decent chance. Hopefully get a good crowd out in Armagh next week.

Captain Obvious

Remarkable Derry with the pick of two U17 All-Ireland winning teams finds themselves out of this U20 championship before the semi-finals.

Semi final line up Wednesday 22nd April

Armagh v Monaghan
Donegal v Tyrone

Donegal have the best player in the competition in Finbar Roarty. They were unlucky in the final last year but should beat Tyrone.

Rory Gallagher absolutely slating the Derry manager on Instagram.

He doesn't Mince his words.

Aaron Boone

I keep reading the Tyrone team is not as good as last year. But they are still there in the mix.

Quote from: cavanmaniac on April 15, 2026, 08:53:28 PMMonaghan deservedly beat Cavan 1-17 to 0-16. Watching Cavan was like a throwback to the old rules...endless shuffling the ball around with no end product, before a possession-starved Monaghan got on a few balls, went direct for the posts at pace and duly notched the scores to win. A few perplexing decisions from the L-Plate referee, when the result was still very much up for grabs, really helped Monaghan at crucial junctures but they deserved to win regardless.

Given the conditions this was a decent game. Cavan will be kicking themselves for not being further ahead at half time with the strong breeze blowing into the town end. They were on top in the first half with Dugdale very impressive at midfield, Noonan's clever running lanes and Shekelton anchoring the defence and transitioning ably to attack. Edwards' injury in the first half was also a blow to them as he was playing well too.

Monaghan lived on scraps in the first half and were thankful to have one of their 7 injured players, Max Maguire, back in the starting line up. What a difference he made. That was his first start since the All Ireland club semi-final. Each of his scores were top drawer especially the rocket of a goal. Was great to see Matthew Finn back to the form that got him a minor all Star in 2023. It's taken him a long time to recover form after the ACL injury. He gave Jensen  Tynan a tough game.

As the game wore on, Monaghan looked the more likely team to win. M Carolan usually comes up big with a decisive score or play and his 2 pt near the end sealed it. For Monaghan, after 3 very lackluster performances , that's two good wins especially with so many key players still missing through injury. Rumour is that the team's star player Tommy Mallen might be back for the Armagh game.  Though no update on full back Johnny Wright, corner back's Meehan and Lynch or forwards O'Connell and McElwaine.

Roarty is a very special player. But will Jim let him play as the seniors play Down 4 days later in USFC?

This applies to 3/4 Donegal players who are involved in both teams

Yep, the wind seemed a big factor and was of course the reason Cavan were playing it short a lot in the second half, but they had zero incision or apparent plan, just shuffle it around and then try to solo through in desperation, which in the conditions and with the Monaghan defence well set and needing to do little more than watch and wait for the inevitable mistake, was far from wise. Cavan will be kicking themselves surely, having beaten Tyrone they're now out, but fading when it matters, and losing big games that were there to be won, has been the Breffni disease for generations now and so on it goes...

I think he will feature. Roarty is the Captain of the U20s, and played an Ulster U20 game the week of the League final against Kerry. Max Campbell and Kevin Muldoon are very good player too.
