Ulster Unionist leader Jon Burrows responded to the news of Donaldson's intention to appeal by saying: "This man is an utter disgrace, as is his wife Eleanor. His eventual sentencing should reflect his complete lack of remorse."

A successful appeal would have to be founded on points of law which Donaldson claims mean he didn't get a fair trial.
The judge's decision to run the trial of the facts alongside a criminal trial is likely to form the core of Donaldson's appeal. Even if he was to succeed in quashing all the convictions, Donaldson would not simply walk free.

Instead, he would face a retrial before a new jury. There would be no way to have the case heard by a judge alone, and it would not be possible to move the case outside Northern Ireland.

A lot of this isn't right. Burrows again showing a complete ignorance of the criminal justice system too.

A lot of the time they know right but just throw out quotes that they believe the public want to hear.

If the Shinners had been in charge of Education they would have been pulling the same strokes.

Wise up. This £6m was a fraction of the education budget ring-fenced for Irish medium education. The DUP have played the sectarian card shamelessly once again. SF ministers have never taken funds ring-fenced for loyalist or unionist communities and allocated elsewhere. Don't post on an empty head.

Nationalist politicians aren't making much of a fuss about this.

Totally useless.

If this is where the money is needed then so be it.

Feel for the parents in these situations and they deserve all the support they can get.

Yet a school in Derry got a 3G pitch they didn't even apply for!

Call it for what it is.
