Quote from: Newbridge Exile on March 18, 2026, 01:20:09 PMBy my counting there would be 6 changes from the corresponding team that won  that year's minors with  Oisin stepping away Luke Grant and Janes Sargent not fully fit and on bench which leaves Finbar Murray Jack McCloy and odhran Campbell being the other three changes ,( Murray and McCloy on the bench , I think someone had said earlier Campbell is at college in the states )

There were 2 Campbells on the minor team. One from Steelstown, the other from Magherafelt who is a kicker at college football in the states.

This will be a tough test, and in a couple of weeks, they will play Donegal who have a raft of players on their senior squad including 2 starters - Roarty and McCahill. On the other side of the draw, current champions Tyrone will be very strong.

He marked McElholm against Tyrone!
we

Really well also. The Louth result was hopefully a blip for us. Win against Cavan and hopefully Tyrone will do us a favour by beating Cork. Tyrone need the win to ensure they play in the Sam Maguire and not the tailteann cup. The last day will be very interesting as all teams bar offaly have something to play for.
Tyrone gave Meath a fair rattle so I'm hopeful they'll get something there, although I think with Brennan leaving and Morgan not starting there's something going on there.

I thought Mc Kinless was good defender, improved at man marking but that we pop tackle in behind the elbow, himself and Niall Loughlin are as good as we have at that.

Its only a blip, Derry were two gears back from were they were against Offaly and Cork and still would have won the game had Mc Guigan scored that penalty. There keeper had a good day when on normal day we would have had 2/3 goals.

Louth have a system that works for them and they are on crest of a wave but its a tough watch, we know all about it. Don't tackle more than 5 yards outside the 2 point arch, slow attacks. That works in Ardee.

That tube Wooly is posting on Twitter saying there's trouble in the Tyrone camp. I think Cork will edge it.

I've grown to like Wooly. He asks questions in interviews and on podcasts with players that most of the mainstream media avoid. He asks the uncomfortable questions. He is who he is and doesn't try to change, and is comfortable knowing he's not going to be everyone's cup of tea.

Na, he's a tube

And a p***k

He is overage for u20s

Mal said on this weeks Derry Gaels podcast that Ryan McNicholl & Conor Raffery from Glenullin are part of a development training panel for the senior team. Be interested to know who else is on this training panel.

Thought the u20's looked pretty good last night. Wasn't a penalty and thought Derry mostly got to grips with Monaghan defensively after an early spell for them.
Spiers and McDaid carried the ball really well out of defence and McGuckian and Young have that bit of pace and fast feet to create something from nothing. Conall Higgins and Tommy Rogers showed their class at times.
Could maybe work a little on kickout strategy and cutting edge in the full forward line if I'm being picky but they looked the more dangerous side in general.

HonDerry

Solid, workmanlike performance yesterday.

Some good individual displays across the pitch as mentioned above.

The full back line of Haran, McEldowney and Small also stood up well

Kickouts will need a bit of work, but that will come hopefully the keeper will take confidence from getting through today.

Plenty to build on

Wildweasel74

What club the Keeper and McDaid(Presume hes Steelstown?)

Derry Optimist

To answer Wildweasel 74's queries as to which clubs Cahir Hampson and Bliain McDaid play for, I think Cahir is a Swatragh club man and Bliain is from Craigbane.

Re Michael McMullan's comments that Glenullin duo Ryan McNicholl and Conor Rafferty are on a Derry Development panel, does anyone know the names of any other players on that particular panel?

Any word on the rehabbing progress of Donncha Gilmore and Oisin McWilliams? If fit, they and Ryan McNicholl would surely be welcome replacements for those who have left earlier this year.

I think McDaid was at the Derry City academy for a while

Brendan

No promotion so average enough league campaign. But got curcially the winning confidence back.

Stand out performers? Ruairi Forbes has been a solid addition to the backs, Paudie McGrogan has returned to his pre injury best in my Opinion. Up front Paul Cassidy and Ethan Doc have been brilliant throughout
