Does Forbes play full back or would mcgrogan drop back?

jb77

I would have thought McGrogan would be ideal for marking Mattie Donnelly but I'll wait for the real team list an hour before throw in

doh827

Very light defensively on the bench. Thought Ryan Mulholland would have been named as he came on in both McKenna cup games

screenexile

JD not named?? Is he injured?

Thought he could get a run out.

jb77

Named on the bench, must be making use of the facilities until Glen call him back for preseason

Wildweasel74

Giving we lacking direct running, u think they actually try him a game at No.11

Lads there's been a lot of clamour for him in here but you can't shy away from the fact he played in 2 McKenna cup games and was poor. Carried the ball into tackles and both his passing and shooting was erratic.
I'm willing to give Meenagh the benefit of the doubt to be honest that he either just isn't sharp enough yet or hasn't stood out enough amongst those at intercounty level to warrant a start so far.
If he ends up starting and playing a blinder then brilliant. I just feel we've always excuses for someone or another who isn't playing. The overwhelming majority of the best players in the county are on the panel. There has to be some element of trust that the management team know what they're doing.

I think thats maybe slightly unfair regarding his Mc Kenna cup displays.

I think Jacks a player similar to Ethan that you have to build a team around. He didn't shoot the lights out but I don't believe his role will ever be a high scoring forward.

My counter argument would be is we have seasoned forwards who are regular starters but rarely are high scoring, does he offer more than some of them? I would say yes.

3 season tickets (2 x adults and 1 x juvenile) in our group are at a wedding today so can't make the game tonight.

If anyone knows of a family or individuals who maybe can't afford it or could do with a lift and would like to go to the game, let me know and I can transfer the tickets across free of charge.

Agree with this. The management wants to win matches and they're going to pick the best team for that. If anyone is playing well in training or gets a chance and plays well they'll be on the team. They're in place, they're experienced and we have to trust their judgement.

Is Oisin Doherty still an U20? Thought he was one of Newbridge's better players and he's a fairly reliable right footed free taker, which we dont have one

jb77

Still U20 but won't be going back apparently

Had a look at the 3 competitive games played to date and the starting front 6 named for tonight's game.
Cassidy (3 games) 2-7 all from play.
Shane McGuigan (1 game) with 0-7 (0-4 from play)
Niall Loughlin (3 games) 0-4 (0-2 from play)
McAteer (1 sub, 2 starts) 0-3 from play
E Doc (3 games) 0-3 from play
N Toner (3 games)  0-1 from play

Murray (2 games) on 0-6 from play is a huge loss to the team.
S Kearney on 0-4 from two sub appearance on the bench.

We've 5 defenders and a couple of lads who've seen v limited minutes contribute the same or more to the scoreboard than some of the starting forwards.

In all the games last week only Fermanagh scored less than Derry. Something different has to happen up front this week.

Shooting accuracy is the biggest problem. We are creating plenty of chances. Hopefully this is just a confidence issue which will improve when we get a result or two. Murray is definitely a big loss.
