Fair play to Andy Moran and Paddy Tally, they didn't start players based on their name and gave younger players a chance.

Paddys a coach and by all accounts he seems to be about as good as there is.
He's not a manager, I'd be surprised if he ever manages again it went that badly for him.

He's was also working with a group of players with overly inflated egos about the level they were operating at.

I never agree with the whole theres a new template to play or win after a trophy is handed out but, Mayo, Dublin, Tyrone, Louth have shown that big shake ups in losing groups and throwing young confident players right into the deep end is a tactic worth trying.

Yeah there is a huge difference between being a coach and a manager. Tally failed twice as a manager- badly. His coaching credentials however are impeccable. I don't know about just throwing young lads in and to be fair the age profile of our team is quite good. Lads like McEvoy, Forbes, Doherty, Sargent, Murray all under 25. Other lads coming into their prime years, McGuigan, Glass, McCluskey, C. Doherty,  McGrogan. Then a sprinkling of more senior heads like Rogers, McKinless and Loughlin.

We just need to click.

Time to move on from a few lads.

Darragh Beirne played in the Hogan Final against St Pats Maghera in 2025. Maghera hammered St Colman's 2-08 to 0-04. Beirne scored all 4pts for the losing team. A year later he scores 1-03 in an All-Ireland final. Unbelievable achievement.

Moran lets them play. Shoot and miss...go for it again. Him and Kobe played with a sense of freedom. Maybe that's youth?

I think Derry wouldn't let a young lad off the lesh like that unfortunately. Too regimented.

Don't see anyone going for the hindsight analysis.

Few lads talking about Tally is about the height of it and I don't see any opinions that a very factually wrong.

No doubt you will enlighten us from your armchair shortly but.

I actually think one of our main issues was not playing lads in their best positions. McEvoy is a 3 or 6. He played everywhere but there. Glass is one of the best midfielders in the country but was used in a kind of hybrid role. McGrogan steady in half back line, played most of the year at full back. Rogers an all star midfielder given man marking jobs on nearly everyone.

The management got a lot wrong. With young lads like Forbes, Higgins, Sargeant, Murray and McEvoy surely we can see these boys improve massively in the next year or two. Plenty of class in the team still.

Don't disagree with that but I think we need to take more risks with young lads.
Mayo had some amount of freedom to shoot. Few rash two points efforts that maybe weren't the sensible option, lads taking the risky pass option that didn't always work but they still kept trying.

We take no risks, maybe an Ulster thing that the style is still very rigid, we play our best stuff when the shackles are off.

Yes it was the tally fan club so you can take a step back from this one 🤣🤣

Don't remember much of a clamour for him to be kept on but now he's helped another setup win an AI he's now the Messiah that got away. Like I say hindsight a great gift

I think this was one of those days, anything can happen in a final and I think Mayo just thought to themselves we may as well go down fighting, when they were 7 points down after 15 minutes. Sometimes there is no fear in young lads but Kobe is a generational talent and a lot goes through him.

I do agree we are too rigid for the new rules. Too robotic. The new rules benefit those who take chances. One huge downside for us is the lack of two point kickers and this is something we need to work on massively.

I had no dislike for Tally, thought he could have got another year with us but wasn't a bit surprised he didn't hang about or was pushed.

And was happy with Meenagh appointment as I think he's better manager.
Doesn't take away from the fact that Tally clearly does alot right wherever he goes.

I base my opinion on attending games and watching managers etc.
You'll learn nothing on social media hoovering up everyone else opinion.

🤣🤣 again I wasn't debating you.

Listen we'll agree that you're right if you promise to leave me alone. I have a feeling you would bore me into submission. I'm in good form rewatching this final please leave me alone mr avid match goer

Interstellar

It's not just Tally but I don't hear a bad word about him from Mayo and Canavan would have him in Tyrone. Devlin took an unfancied Louth to AI semis and Harte well we know what he has done. None of these were good enough for the current panel of 15. The present setup does not work. We will win nothing playing 'puke' football with the new rules and playing the same panel of 15 with recent past players in the backroom. Can Meenagh change all that? We will see.
