The general consensus as long as I have been following GAA is that Derry would be considered perennial under achievers both in Ulster and nationally. Even in Coleman's time he was one of the first to involve a psychologist to get them to All Ireland glory. Seems to be less of a problem at under age.

I don't agree often with Mugsy but he's right Derry players walkout about with big sad heads looking depressed and feeling sorry for themselves time to put up or shut up today. Meenagh says dressing room full of leaders well let's see it today lads.

In fairness, I wouldn't listen much to what Mulligan has to say re: football. Just there for the 'light entertainment slot' with Devenney at half-time.

you can brush him off all you want but he is mostly right...

3 All Ireland QF's. Westmeath, Cork, Clare. The only games we've won at Croke Park in 33 years. One game for every 11 years. For a 'football' county that is embarrassing. The hurlers have as many wins and get zero credit.

We have no right to win anything. Every bit of success should be celebrated. Meath were in an All Ireland semi-final less than 12 months ago.

The level both codes are playing at is relative here.

Not sure anyone has any right but fact remains we are in alot better place and for a longer period than we ever have been but that final hurdle is eluding us so far.

Can have Mugsy as he starts the pot for entertainment.
Lee Keegan and the Sunday Game Mayo contingent would sicken anyone. Talking about Armagh putting manners on Derry. Jesus christ his career highlights are just a monologue of various countries putting mannerson him.
And Cora the delight Staunton, if you were in poor form before turning on the TV she would drag that last inch of enthusiasm away.

No changes to the 15, wasn't expecting that, how can arguably the best player of the year, Niall Loughlin, be left out of a do or die match unless carrying an injury

Brendan

Forget about promotion again next year, some lads haven't performed in years and are still there on reputation alone, there's clearly young talent there that aren't getting enough chances blood them in the league next year before it's too late and another generation missed out on

Interstellar

This is the end of this team. I would also question the management team as well, at the very least some additional backroom coaching required. Is Meenagh out of his depth at this level? Completely outplayed today. Cleaned out at kick outs. Do they have an appreciation of the new rules? I can't think of any current Derry player that automatically deserves a place on the team for next season. At least out of our misery for this season.

Interstellar

Also, failed to get promoted from Division 2,   failed despite a favourable draw to get to an Ulster Final and the only championship win was a hard fought victory against Antrim. I would not even fancy our chances in the Tailtean Cup.

100%. I'd say we should prioritise getting the young lads in during the league, over promotion. I was holding out the hope that the older lads could rediscover their form during the championship but its pretty clear now that a rebuild is needed.

Stickman

Too slow in attack and with kick outs. No fight in that side either

currychip

Getting cleaned out on KOs in the first half looks to me like a lack of proper preparation and on the management.  It's one of the things that are predictable.  If plan A isn't working, move to plan B or C.  We stuck with plan A.

The problem with that cunning plan is that the initial priority is ensuring that you play in Sam Maguire, rather than tailteann cup. So you play your strongest team. Unfortunately limited room for experimentation in div 2.

And that will be the same next year in what will be an absolutely cut-throat div 2.

I can see us being relegated next year, but reaching the final of the Tailteann cup.

No question that div 2 is not straightforward, but if we have a core of 10 or so experienced players, I think we can survive div 2 and still blood 6 or 7 of the younger lads. In theory we should get stronger as the league goes on. Definitely a balancing act, but significant change is needed.
