Rossfan, Syf or whoever... Are those 'outside influences' who Fergal O'Donnell mentioned outside the Co Board or outside the last year's management/players? If it's outside the Co board then it doesn't look good.

Don't read too much into it. This is my understanding of events Fergal and Kevin both met and it was decided(Which was obvious) that joint management wasn't working. So one of them was always going to have to go. Boths sides started to canvass looking for support to get the job and kevin seemed to be getting the majority backing. A lot of the reasoning was Fergal had been there before, A lot of the poor player selections and tactics from last year looked to have been more Fergal than Kevin and a lot of people will tell you Kevin had little in put last year against the 3 Boyle men. He withdrew because he knew he wasn't going to get the Job.

There was one lad there in the half back line with zero pace (not the Boyle lad) - was he really a Fergal pick? And if Kevin chose his management team, what kind of manager is he if he cannot keep them in line? Indeed, what kind of manager is he if he cannot stop his brother in law from going on radio and podcasts criticising players by name and discussing their tactics in advance of a game?
I like Kevin McStay, don't get me wrong, but the whole narrative that it was all Fergal's fault seems to be an important one for those who made the move against Evans and Kearns last year, just to preserve their own reputations. That one of them was on the selection committee was another red flag to me. Also, most of the best modern managers have been young with novel new mindsets - we had a selection committee that was "auld style" to say the least and no disrespect to Mulvey but his skill is in conflict resolution and that he attended the 1962 All-Ireland - and that of course is another red flag (not the All-Ireland attendance but that a bit of conflict resolution was needed). Marty McDermott was a great manager but he was also on the selection committe that picked Des Newton who had no management experience (a great player) - and that was another red flag. Fergal is a good man who loves his county and I'd go with his side of the story on this one.

That fella in half backs wasn't as the other half back you reference. He was continuously selected despite been substituted at half time or 5 mins into second half in all important games this year.
You're entitled to you're opinion on what happened I have mine. I think both lads have let themselves and county down running to media especially Dineen. Fergal maybe had valid reasons but that remains to be seen.

Reading back on your previous posts you seem to be a keen supporter of John Evans did he let himself and you down when he ran to media after leaving Roscommon last year? In situations like this supporters will always look for scapegoats however these problems with Roscommon probably run far deeper than one or two people.

Yes I was a big supporter of Evans, I think he did let himself down going to the media. But then again he was an outsider who once finished with us had no affiliation to the county what did he care what effect his statement had on the county. The other two boys are Roscommon men and you would expect them to have the good of Roscommon football at heart and not themselves, More so Dineen than Fergal.  What good did they think was going to come of running to media with another negative report on Roscommon football? We are in a bad enough place as it its without hitting national media again.
What happened Evans was a public coup by people to get him out and replaced by a new "Dream Team" that those people had already lined up. What happened Fergal if his story is to be believed is that some people tried to belittle him in support of McStay when the two were to go against each other. They both have said they agreed joint management wasn't working so someone had to go. I expect what he meant people were at is similar to the campaign Rossfan is at here against McStay.

Hush it up, keep it quiet etc.
Like the Church and child abuse . We saw how that worked out.
Hopefully their speaking out may help lance the boil but € might prevent that.
Unlike "Oliver Kelly" who was a willing participant in dissing Fergal I'm not running any campaign against McStay.
All I'll say is he's fairly gone down in my estimation.

Yes you have since the day Fergal withdrew himself you have been on a one man mission dissing Kevin and haven't giving any reason for it and nothing back it up.
I have always backed up my argument about what I saw as faults in FOD unlike yourself mine wasn't personal it was just I taught he was a poor manager and not right for Roscommon at the time. I was proved right with the joke of a set up we had last year

It shouldn't matter if that manager is a insider or outsider his best intentions is to give his very best for the team. I see no problem If a manager feel the need to comment especially if behind the scenes nonsense is going on. Kevin McStay didn't hold back after he didn't get the Mayo job and I believe Mayo copped on since then and now have their most expensive and professional management team in place but even the very best can make mistakes with their selections.

McStay was the one that brought O Donnell in as he didn't want to do the manager role alone they agreed on 3 years and after one year they decided it needed to become one manager. For me I don't see the sense in judging management after one year and if Roscommon are to repeat their championship results in 2017 e.g Connacht final and round 4 defeat what then another change on the never ending Roscommon manager merry go round.

Is the photo of Dineen still hanging over the mantelpiece after yesterday, though?

"Oliver" the joke of a set up as you call it.....
Hadn't we a joint management?
Therefore they were BOTH  responsible yet the campaign was waged against 1.
I presume the aim of the perpetrators was to poison as many club delegates as possible so they'd vote against Fergal if a Co Board Meeting was voting between the 2 gents.
Fergal however dropped his bomb on them and a lot of people began to learn the shiteology that was going on.

Anyway we'll see how it goes but the fault line remains.

Yes it is, Its a bullshit article. Rumour was started by two clowns on the stolensheep forum. Two lads who are sour over O'Donnell's departure. Players will seek a clear the air meeting with McStay should he get the job. Looking for answers on why certain things happened last year and also what happened in run up to FOD departing. None have said they wont play next year.

Rossfan

I'm beginning to think "Oliver" is one of the mafia rather than the gom I originally thought.
About 50% of players said they'd  prefer if McS wasn't the new manager. This is pretty common knowledge across the County.
It is not as "Oliver" states the imagination of posters on stolen-sheep.

Whether any of those players refuse to play for the m****m****** approved ex army managenent is a different story.
They only have a few short years anyway so should make the most of them.

Mind you if you have to spend hours travelling across country to and from training and then find an expensive shambles........
