The Healy Raes have being buying property in Allsop auctions and yet decry about the homeless crisis. Also have an interest in Irish water and yet preach anti water charges rethoric. Some boys.

300k in state contracts to companies owned by the Healy Raes. Two brothers in the dail, a sister in the County Council and a sister in revenue (not sure if it's the same person). Callan's Kicks rightly lampooned them, "we give constituents what they are already entitled to in the first place". They play the fool convincingly but it's just deflection tactics so that press focus on the gombeen aspect rather than what they are really up to. They're not called cute Kerry hoors for nothing.
The sister, Rosemary, is a very successful, and very high earning, barrister.
And has quite the reputation!

Would she be considered one of those "schmart alicks up in Dublin" or is she based in Kerry too.

Does loads of pro bono work no doubt. Representing others as opposed to self interest is a common trait in that family, fair play to them. Doffs cap.

Christ, I knew they had a lot of angles covered but the Lotto as well? Quite the operation they've got going. And there I was thinking that the recovery was not being seen outside of the Red Cow Roundabout, seems to have reached parts of Kilgarvan.

Is it true they are looking to introduce drink driving licences for South Kerry?

I think it is fairly obvious that Fianna Fail have no intention of going into power at the minute. They are still in a rebuilding phase for the party, and to go into coalition with FG would scupper that plan. I don't think it is particularly clever though, it is the only feasible option they have got.

I think Fianna Fáil are in danger of playing an absolute blinder here. Fine Gael need to be very careful. This is a situation where their desire to hold power/do what's best for the country (delete as you see fit) may run them right out of government after the next election, which will be at the behest of Fianna Fáil if their plans go as they want them too.

I think this is the scenario Fianna Fáil want...

Fine Gael form a minority government, with the help of 10 or so independents, and maybe a couple of the smaller parties. Fianna Fáil 'try their best' to form an alternative government, but reluctantly, and magnanimously, decide to support this minority government, "in the interests of the people and to avoid another election".

FF take their seats on the opposition benches, and become a simmering threat to every move the government wants to make, while at the same time making sure Sinn Féin don't accrue the benefits of being the main opposition party.

Then, in 18 months, or 2 years, when a populist subject like Irish Water, or USC, or Housing comes to boiling point (Irish Water, boom, boom) FF, as these new watchdogs, decide to pull the plug as they 'cannot support a government who would do such a terrible thing', and align themselves for purposes of grandstanding, with Sinn Fein, AAA etc.

They call a vote of confidence, the Government is defeated and falls. Back to the country, except this time as the party that 'nobley forfeited a chance at power for the good of the country, but couldn't stand by and watch this terribly punitive/unfair/buzz word of the day legislation go through, and believe that any government that proposed such a heinous act cannot be allowed to stand'. Sinn Féin's ground is challenged, Fine Gael are beaten up on a populist issue, any independents that supported it are undermined, and FF rides back into power as a majority partner in a slightly left of centre coalition, maybe with the Social Democrats, Labour or, more unlikely without leadership changes on both sides, Sinn Fein.

If FF and FG take the risk of a second election so that they can belatedly decide that there is no option but to do a deal "for the good of the country" is there any chance that this will backfire with people voting differently or a significant number just not voting at all?
Fianna Fail have more growth potential in opposition than in Government.  Going in will enable their rivals SF to directly attack them.  Staying outside and parking the bus for another 12 - 18 months lets them build themselves up for power.  Fine Gael, I suspect will hold together the alliance in power and run the country but it will be pulled down after 1 year.  During that year I suspect Adams will move aside and Sinn Fein momentum from fresh leadership has the potential to enable massive growth, however with its main target beside them in opposition that growth will be stunted.  Is there an eventual government between FF and SF in the future - I would imagine not but stranger things have happened.
Can Fine Gael go in with all the independents and make it work, potentially yes but the risk for their opposition is that they will achieve great success and flourish with all sides towing the line in the national interest.  The next 2 years in Irsh politics will be interesting indeed.  Is it crazy to think that  within a few years the "starved North" will look south for increased power, political alignments and economic opportunity for their peoples with the Tories so strong,   and I am not simply referring to what we define as nationalist parties?  Could a  repositioning in Irish NIrish politics in a few years could see unholy alliances between FG and UUP, SF and DUP, FF and SDLP, just a thought...Politicians initially strive for power on principles but then principles become secondary to retaining and building power.

If this Brexit bollix goes ahead then Adams will not retire as the whole GFA will be up in the air and as McGuinness has called for a border poll.

I'm surprised anyone noticed.

Farrandeelin

How long do the talks have to go on for? If they haven't reached an agreement by the end of April, say? Continue talking all summer??

I don't think there's any limit to the time a caretaker Govt can operate as Bhunreacht??
Kenny and Martin will either have to come to some arrangement or else a new election if the talks don't produce around 65 votes for EK to form a minority administration.
Edit - Kenny/Martin either rang/texted each other, spoke/didn't speak  today about meeting tomorrow/next Wednesday. Sounds like 1st April came a day earlier in FG/FF land :o
