Said after the defeat to Dublin that he had another two years with Galway. If rumours are true it would suggest he's pushed out the door.

From the outside looking in it would be best for Galway. Would never doubt his standing in Galway football but he has employed the slow laborious football with this side.  I spoke to one of the Armagh players after the AI final win and he said they couldn't believe how slow Galway were in their build up play and gave us plenty of time to get our defensive shape.

Even under the new rules they were too slow and played too much possession football.  Galway have some serious forwards and a more direct approach would have to pay dividends for them.

Galway had a decent record and came close to making that step up, but you always felt they were not doing enough with the players they had.
Apart from the stars up front they have power and speed all over the pitch, with big men who can move. The new rules should suit them more.

I could see PJ taking a year out and then maybe Kildare go in for him. It would be a Hail Mary, but he lives there still as far as I know.

Speaking of Jimmy, he might be a man to out some shape on Galway?

Could definitely see a fair few of the Galway players being of the opinion that it would be for the best if he moved on at this stage. Two wins over Leitrim (by 5 points) and Westmeath (by 3 points) two Tailteann cup teams combined with losses to the Rossies (9 points) and Dublin (4 points) is a fair bit below par for where Galway probably saw themselves pre championship. Even beyond the actual results, it hard to see any sort of forward progress that was made this year given the nature of the performances in games.

Haven't really pushed on the way they probably should have since 2022. Beat by Mayo in 2023, had a brilliant win over Dublin in 2024, got the rub of the green against Donegal and then were poor in the final.

Last year they beat us in the group game when we'd nothing to play for and lost the 2 men marking Walsh, then were deservedly beaten by a middling enough Meath. Less said about this year the better. Plenty of Connacht medals in fairness but they look to be getting further away from the big one. Their big men aren't getting any younger either- has Conroy gone? You'd wonder how much Walsh and Comer have left in them as well with all the injuries.

We have also been poor at underage since the 2020 under 20 AI win (we won the minor Ai in'22 but have not won either a minor or u20 Connacht title since that u20 win). Thompson the only real standout player that has come through since & next years under 20's will be middling again.

They lost that game by 1 point, they obviously could just as easily won it. Their style of play, whatever we may think of it, was very close to getting the job done.

They lost that game by 1 point, they obviously could just as easily won it. Their style of play, whatever we may think of it, was very close to getting the job done.

If close won you something, then Mayo would have several Sams in the 21st century.

Galway GAA officials tonight have scotched widespread rumours that Padraic Joyce is stepping down as senior football team manager.

Kieran McGeeney to remain as Armagh manager. Unanimous support from clubs, will be his 13th year in charge in 2027.

2027 will be his 38th consecutive season to be involved in senior Inter-county football:

• 18 as an Armagh player.
• 6 as Kildare manager.
• 1 as Armagh coach (2014 when he also had an involvement with the Tipperary senior hurlers).
• 13 as Armagh manager.
