Quote from: EoinW on April 15, 2026, 11:15:31 AMPersonally I like championship games being played exclusively on the weekend.  Leaves me weekdays to focus on other things.  Plus it's unique in the 24/7 world we now live in.  Reminds me of how sporting events were originally scheduled, with all games played on Saturdays or holidays - certainly not Sundays! - with some communities having Wednesday afternoon games because it was a Half Day.

Don't mind me.  I'm just being nostalgic.
Think there's definitely a case to be made for them given the condensed championship now to give people a chance to see more games, theres so many games on now it's obviously hard to follow everything.

Good point!  My situation is unique, I don't have to watch them live, therefore I don't miss any televised games.  Plus I can avoid hearing any results by simply staying away from GAA internet sources.

For the fans who attend games, it is a worthy consideration to spread them out.

Its down to how a team prepares, a manager will want the nutrition right on the day and the prep of whats required, physios, team chat with regards to the tactics employed in case there has been a late change in the other teams selection, late fitness tests, meeting early and heading to the match together in plenty of time, avoiding traffic and having a stress free time to think about the game.

As a manager I'd hate to be thinking for the logistics of that for a Friday or Wed evening game. I'd be surprised to hear one intercounty manager be in favour of that
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Didn't Oisin McConville float the idea on their podcast?

All valid points but I daresay a local game on a Friday evening at 7.30 would present less of a challenge than lunchtime fixture on a Saturday, in a far flung part of Ireland.

Down have been playing their club SFC games on Thursday and Monday (as well as Friday) evenings since way back in the day. Often with a week or less of notice. Often involving an hour of a drive for competing teams.

It's not intercounty football, but it matters.

And you know what, we all just get on with it. People adapt quickly when they've no choice in the matter.

So are there no builders as intercounty players anymore or anyone with a manual labour job?
