Hurlers finally got up and running with a win over Kerry today.

Let's hope it's not too little, too late.

Down beating Kildare in the final round, and Westmeath beating Kerry, would ensure Down avoid relegation, I think.

Great win for the hurlers, gives a chance of avoiding relegation from Joe mcdonagh cup.

Minor footballers however beat by Leitrim on penalties in their first game in the tier 2 competition, a terrible result for this group of players and management

Poor result for our minors. A lot of work needing done to get us competitive again at this level. The seniors having a good run will help....

Down v louth next week in newry next week will ve a big game. Louth are the mighty lenister champions at are coming to newry on a high...but I think laverys boys will really relish a good go at louth. It should be a big crowd..

Good performance yesterday. Clare were really bad though.
Very poor crowd in Ennis 1,500 people over half were from Down.
Distance, prices and no faith in the home team.
What would be a big crowd for the Louth game?
Last time Newry had a big crowd for Down was v Mayo in a qualifier a few years back.
Louth might bring a decent following. Down don't get big numbers, would be good if that changes for the next 2 games, 1 in Newry and the other Armagh.

Saying the same for me now, was working last night. Not my video in fairness and probably not strictly meant to be showing it.

Who would be a referee tbh give the level of abuse they get, need thick skin, but we can't play the game without them. What's the solution?

In Antrim if you don't have a registered referee at adult level you lose adult home fixtures until you do.

This has happened us in the past and I think our neighbours have lost a few home games over it this year.

There's a dearth of referees no doubt. It would seem there's only 5-6 left on the Newry area juvenile football circuit. f**k knows how we'd survive if losing 1-2 more.

But Wednesdays present the biggest obstacle I'd think. U14 boys and girls football are on the same slot, an age group when middle sized clubs like ours have the numbers to run 2 teams, and all the bigger clubs are running As and Bs (and even Cs).
