this came up in a discussion with a couple of my orangey workmates about a week ago when i heard the armagh celebration was to be held in newtownhamilton south armagh. for those who don't know newtown is a narrow street where one car badly parked can bring the 'town' to a standstill. theres nothing to cater for a crowd of 100 never mind all of the armagh orange order. neither of the lads seemed too impressed with the venue.
i suggested the long kesh/maze site for a mega twelfth celebration where all the orangeys could meet up and have a real orange fest. hundreds of bands, hundreds of lodges, hundreds of chipvans/icecreamvans, funfairs, praying, bonnys.. and beer- barrels of the stuff.
it would be cheaper and less hassle for the ni executive to part fund this idea than to police hundreds of marches all over the place. the site is 350 acres well serviced by road and rail and bus. it would take some planning but could it work?
Well services by rail? Since when?

I have one theory for the 12th - rather than avoid and protest on the parades, the republican community should embrace and actually join in as such, stand and smile and look like you are really enjoying the colour, music and atmosphere ( all through gritted teeth of course).

Confuse them, may take a few years but when they realise they aren't pissing anyone off (dumb as they are) they'll just get fed up doing it and it will fall apart.
I've been suggesting this for years.
The parade commission should make it mandatory ( not sure how) that parades from both side should
Include minimum 10% participation from ' the other side'!!

For clarity, this is an ordinary Twelfth

and this is a mega Twelfth

Well for those who want the hospital wing of the H block demolished having the 12th on site would be the quickest way of going about it.

This could be Willie Frasers Fisrt point on his manifesto for his new political party.

Maybe that's why they insist on going through the likes of Ardoyne!

the railway runs right past it and has done for over a hundred years. the motorway also runs past it you may have noticed. i know this motorway lark doesnt sit well with many stoops since they havent managed to get speed bumps on to it yet but even at 60mph if you look north east from your vehicle from the m1 you'll see the kesh.

look this was only an idea thrown up in banter between workmates. the site as has already been stated in numerous threads is central, level, and doesnt require huge utility/access development and is a blank canvas and untried. personally i think a mega twelfth there following a sort of feile or orangefest theme like an orangelastonbury with all the things that interest orangemen/women/families could be a big hit and could help orangism shake off this confrontational mode that will eventually be its downfall. they are not going to do what we tell them to do but they do respond to financial incentives. perhaps a juicy carrot like 1.5million in funding toward the festival and some enthusiastic rhetoric from their leaders could help our marching problem. anyhow we are about to see what the usefulness of the place is in a couple of weeks when the balmoral show is held there.

obviously the lodges will still want to have their little parades through the towns/villages where they're from.

The railway is about a kilometer away 'as the crow flies'. The 'masterplan' for when the stadium was proposed referred to a rail link into the site. That's not in place now.

I never mentioned the motorway. I know exactly where the site is.

Since it all started with the Armagh celebrations, can't we GAA Armagh heads have a counter celebration for all things orange on the same date and see who walks out alive. 2 birds one lovely sharp michaèl, I mean stone?

Will never work unless there are some Catholics living nearby
There aren't too many Fenians living around half-town.  :)

The Mother tells me I was due the 12th but I waited till the 13th to come out. Says I wouldn't give the Organgemen the satisfaction. Beat that one, lads.

My birthday's the 3rd December.

The whole flag thing kicked off on the 3rd December last year.

its 600ms away i clocked it today. theres plenty of room for a platform to be put in place to allow passengers to disembark and walk/march to the site

oh i expect it to be a bad summer with alot of confrontations, these f**kers have been gearing up since the flags trouble at christmas. expect alot of dup giving out out about roads blocked in  certain areas as alot of residents groups would have taken note of the lack of police action earlier in the yr.
it might be a bad summer but there'll be two great days when the sun will shine.. 8) further proof that god is a bowler hat wearing, sash donning, drum beating orangeman ;)

Bollocks, it will snow on the twisted fcukers this year, I hope they freeze and get soaked and that if they break the law the psni hammer the shit out of them.
Armagh, the one true love of a mans life.
