QuoteExpect we will win pulling up. 5-7 points. Our h/f line will destroy that Cork h/b line and Cork forwards will struggle to put up any sort of decent score.

QuoteI think he made the right call leaving Andy at CHF, he'll give Canty an awful time.

QuoteIf we could get him right Moran has more quality than O Neill and O Connor put together.

Karma is a motherfucker lads.

Enjoy it. It obviously meant a lot.

Cork should be happy enough with things at the moment ahead of the championship. The full-back line was excellent today. Carey got the MOTM award but I would have given it to Cadogan myself and Shields was another to shine. One or two of the forwards were less impressive. Walsh and Colm O'Neill took their goals well but struggled outside of that, while Kerrigan was disappointing. Goold in the first half and Kelly in the second were the star performers in attack and it was great to see Goulding come off the bench and score a lovely point from an acute angle. Based on current form, Goold has surely done enough to start in June so you would imagine Walsh will revert to midfield to accommodate the expected return of Goulding in the corner.

I expected a bit more from Mayo to be honest. Moran is excellent and O'Connor has the talent and  temperament to be an inter-county star for a long time but overall they still look a couple of top-class forwards away from making a real push for an All Ireland. If you hold Moran, and Cork did a reasonable job today, then you wonder where the guile and cutting edge is going to come from in their attack. The backs are among the best in the business and they will remain a very tough team to play against and on that basis I'd prefer to avoid them in the Championship if at all possible.

Best debut post.

Load of shite - smart- aleckly post. Doesn t realise Mick is not from Mayo/or not well in the head. Not an awful lot wrong with the other 2 statements even in hindsight.

Still though the Mayo/Kerry match was really high intensity and entertaining. Surprised that a final would then be so flat.

Mayo in a flat final.......Never!  :P

Dont think it was as simple as that even though the papers may present it as such tomorrow. Just though both sides were poor for long parts of the game and in general there was a very low key atmosphere.

Sure there was nobody at it! And conditions were brutal. Both games were muck but nobody will give Tyrone a hard time for losing the first game. Mayo as usual will have to take a kicking but I couldn t give a shite. I m happy enough. It s been an up and down league but we have developed. Experience and still being tactically playing catch-up was a big thing today.

Agreed. Small crowd and the weather cant have helped.

Noel O'Leary should get a ban after dragging the Mayo lad off the ground. The lad could have been very seriously injured. Disgusting act.

Just after watching the game ....
The moment in the game that sticks out in my mind the most is Noel O'Learys complete scumback act of trying to lift Donal Vaughan up of the ground - should have got a straight red. Another one was Michael Shields throwing the ball on Andy Moran as he lay on the ground injured ..... not near as bad as O'Learys but just shouldn't happen and should be a red too imho.
Hope the referees committees or whatever clamp down on this..... ditto the diving (Donal Vaughan, for a man as hard as steel you looked a fool for taking a dive)

Update: 'snap' Benny !

Agree. And Cork may yet regret showing such an approach so early in the year.

I think the GAA need to look at the O'Leary incident, and make players known this sort of thing will not be tolerated. Some player is going to get very seriously injured.

Didn't Gregory McCartan get sent out in 2003 for throwing the ball at Brian McGuigan? Why only yellow for Shields?

That same Mayo player got Mark Collins sent off in the earlier league game by diving and clutching his face, no doubt that was in Noels mind. And Shields threw the ball after the Mayo man "clutched his face" after zero contact, looks like refs aren't buying it anymore.

Is this the new Mayo "hard edge" we keep hearing about, act tough but when you get it back hit the deck clutching your face ala Rivaldo?

No doubt. He had it all thought out to be sure to be sure.

Don't like to see Mayo lads playacting it's indefensible and I hope Horan stamps it out he was never one to do it himself.

Well said. Similarly, the GAA needs to make diving and feigning injury - ala Dillon, Vaughan and Moran yesterday - at the very least an automatic yellow card. If these things are not picked up on during the game the GAA should punish divers like Vaughan and co after the match. Not only do these players massively damage the reputation of Gaelic Football and damage the sport as a spectacle, they also invite negative and physical actions to players going down with actual injuries, particularly if that player, like Vaughan, has a reputation for diving and plays on a team that has a reputation for diving.

I'd like to see how either of you would react if the Hulk inter-county team were practising their karate chops on your face. I don't think I've seen more 'high tackles' in my life. Cork feigned significantly more injuries than Mayo did.
