Still though the Mayo/Kerry match was really high intensity and entertaining. Surprised that a final would then be so flat.

Mayo in a flat final.......Never!  :P

Dont think it was as simple as that even though the papers may present it as such tomorrow. Just though both sides were poor for long parts of the game and in general there was a very low key atmosphere.

Yeah, the papers will dish out the usual cliches. Martin Breheny stuff. Mayo choke rather than Mayo are not good enough (which is no crime)!

Sure there was nobody at it! And conditions were brutal. Both games were muck but nobody will give Tyrone a hard time for losing the first game. Mayo as usual will have to take a kicking but I couldn t give a shite. I m happy enough. It s been an up and down league but we have developed. Experience and still being tactically playing catch-up was a big thing today.

Thanks to be god that excuse for a competition is over and having to read all the crapology on this site about league games is now over.

The league is an utter farce. For starters a league should not have a semi final let alone a final. Winners of a league are the team that finish at the top of the table at the end.

Anyhow on with the championship from now on and the real football.

The best lesson learned today is that 3 out of the 6 starting forwards are not good enough for the 'league' so they must not be good enough for the championship.

We have a great back line, adequate midfield and 3 decent forwards which will be good enough to get to an AISF this year.

On our day we can beat anyone. Hopefully Kerry will do us a favour though and keep Cork away from us.
They get momentum, they go mad, here they go

From the Bunker

The unpressurised turnovers were our biggest problem today.
Was a bad day in the office. But a good day to find out about bad days in the office.
Let go hide in the hills and the meadows and prepare for the real stuff.  :P

Freeman or Varley for Conroy is the only Mayo championship forward change i can foresee.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Hard to know what to make of the game. Undoubtedly Cork deserved to win. We did well in 1st half. Defence was on top then, and COC scored lovely frees as well as dashing runs from deep by Vaughan et all. However, our midfield was a shambles. How Barry Moran lasted until 15 mins to go is beyond me. Gibbons played better imo and was replaced at  ht. As well as this, Cork, like so many times in recent seasons upped the ante in 2nd half. Mayo's defence was under sustsined pressure, and despite doing their damdest, they couuldn't continue to keep Cork at bay. Felt Higgins was Mayo's best player. Conroy, if he misses early on in a game is liable to drift away. Barry Moran isn't good enough. Conoreen was found wanting today. Lots of things for Hiran to work on if we want to go far this year.
Inaugural Football Championship Prediction Winner.

QuoteExpect we will win pulling up. 5-7 points. Our h/f line will destroy that Cork h/b line and Cork forwards will struggle to put up any sort of decent score.

QuoteI think he made the right call leaving Andy at CHF, he'll give Canty an awful time.

QuoteIf we could get him right Moran has more quality than O Neill and O Connor put together.

Karma is a motherfucker lads.

If Conroy had stuck that clear chance early on he could have had a different game, as Farr said...drifted out of it. Think he adds more than Varley all round, Varley swings onto the left and shoots on sight. Kerry had him sussed in the AISF last year.

Agree totally. Almost. But who are the 3 out of the 6?

This Cork team have been about a while. They know what they re doing. The most important thing we need now is a coach and a tactician.

It was ok starting out with 6 forwards but the game was gone once we left our defenders isolated at the begining of second half. All our ff line were taken off eventually anyway! So why not try to clog things up for the inevitable onslought by introducing an extra defender at ht. And the forward subs did no better. It s not about the ability of the ff line or any other line. It s about how we set up. Not wanting to be too critical of management but they could have managed the forwards better. Conroy looked a bag of nails today - and I wouldn t blame him! He s easily the only 15 in the county and came into the later league on fire. But yet management had to sub him even when he was going well. Looked today he was proving himself when he should have been in the zone.  Management need to look at that. If I was Horan or Nallen etc I would not be happy with how our inside forwards are underachieving. There is quality there and you have to question why a lot of our forwards have only a few games or just one year in them.

The old saying that you re only as good as you re last game is going to set the agenda for a while now. No harm. Better we got another few lessons today than to cod ourselves. In fact if we managed to win today it would be probably do is more harm in the long run.

That s why today does not matter that much. In fact it should be seen as a free consultation.

Either of which would be a huge mistake. If Conroy is not able to play 15, forget about the rest. I m pissed now and i m goin to regret saying this but if a ciotóg like Varley cant cut it at 13 then how is he goin to improve on Conroy at 15 (especially since Conroy is a much better player anyway)

Freeman I like but he has a lot to do now. He destroyed Noel McGuire for 10 min, 2 years ago. I m pissed and I m old but I M still faster than N McG was 2 yrs. ago ffs. O Hara then went back as sweeper and we kicked everything to him trying to find Feeman. Not Feeman s fault and new and we have a much better management now  but we re still playin catch-up (a lot of fault there down to previous management). There will be changes before championship, but if I had anything to do with it Conroy would be one of the first names on the sheet. Just get him to relax a bit and gat a bit of confidence going.
