The championship structure has been debated, as has the leagues and by considering the first round results there are some who are clinging to Senior and D1 but who are clearly below that level.

With a total of 34 teams entered into championship would it be an option to run 10/12/12 in group format similar to current Intermediate football and hurling?

Minimum 4 games, easy option to create playoff for relegation. Potential to create QFs should the willingness be there and fixture calendar allow.

Quote from: Take the Mark on August 05, 2025, 10:28:14 AMVery true NAG but they were also missing 2 or 3 against St Johns - Coby Cunning the most notable, and they now have 1 foot in the quarters already!

From what I have heard Coby won't be featuring any time soon in the football or hurling

Hes got a chance of playing. He's been training and in the gym all year.

The man is a serious inspiration for any of our younger players who have suffered an injury with his attitude towards rehab.

Hes been running on the pitch for a fair few months now. You nearly get dizzy when you are watching their training sessions when you see how times he's lapping it  ;D

Christ, i need to speak to someone then about my wages.

Anthony is manager. Murtagh is in helping him. As was said before, Anthony likes to bring in different voices to the set up over the years. Murtagh has done a fine job from what I've seen and its similar to his approach at training as well.

Also the surprise at us beating St Johns is quite amusing. You wont find anyone in the home support Sunday who didn't expect to see us win - albeit not by as much. There's absolutely the potential there to win a senior championship, its just being able to split the demand over two codes.

Hurling will always be priority over football for the supporters.

It was the margin that surprised people, not the fact you won the game.

We've heard this story before yet whenever they meet a serious contender they've been threw out of the way like twigs in a storm both physically and tactically.  No surprise about beating St Johns but the size of the defeat is worth taking a 2nd glance at.

Perhaps this year will be different. No better time to meet Cargin than in the group stages where there is less riding on it. The likes of St Brigids would be a very different animal to a St John's side that just need put out of their misery.

They beat Portglenone in the semi final 2 years ago Spike

Sure that's how it's meant to be, there only a bunch of hurlers having a bit of craic way the big ball.

Its pointless anyway debating. Cargin at a Canter again this year,  let's be honest,  who has any realistic chance of beating them?

I don't see Cargin winning it this year. It's between the Ulster select crowd and Creggan.

You'll have to show your working out son. Can't see anyone getting close to Cargin. The only team in Antrim that can beat Cargin is.....Cargin.

Cargin nearly at full strength just got by TNN , in fairness I heard they missed plenty of chances but TNN were right in the game until maybe the last 10 minutes.

Glenravel , Johnnies both better sides than TNN so I can see why people are seeing past Cargin after PG1 and Dunloy beat both these sides easily also Creggan seeing off Ballymena relatively easily.

Correct me if I am wrong about Cargin being full strength and I know it is just the first group game but a lot of teams look like they have closed the gap , can never write Cargin off but certainly not as confident this year as previous.

Kerry did what needed to be done and didn't look great when it didn't matter.....

However, I agree that they aren't that far ahead of the chasing pack that they couldn't be caught.

What you should be worried about is cargin played poor and won easy. Everyone predicting everyone but Cargin so then in the off chance Cargin dont win they can wave their flag, but if they do go onto to win it everyone will be saying "sure that was always going to happen"

As previously stated the only club in Antrim that can beat Cargin is Cargin

With the greatest respect, and I do believe they are the best team in the county, that is a nonsense quip. If a team does beat them, they do so on their own merit. Not because Cargin beat themselves.

Maybe won easy in the finish up but they struggled nearly until the death where they pulled away from TNN

I enjoy watching Cargin and like to see them doing well just probably a matter of opinion given the age profile and some of the other sides , I also don't agree with you saying everyone predicting everyone but cargin as they are bookies favourites at 17/10 so obviously is some confidence there!

As I said you definitely can't write them off I am just saying personally I am not as confident this year in them as I have been probably the last few years obviously I am not involved with players etc I am sure they are still backing themselves I just think myself this year it seems a bit more open but I stand to be corrected and will hold my hands up if so , If anything for a neutral for myself it makes it bit more interesting giving how dominant Cargin have been the last number of years !!
