I don't understand why do they suddenly have to be linked? Last year Ballymena were division 1 and were intermediate. St Endas did it before.

It's pretty ludicrous that Dunloy are in division one now (and that's no offense to them).

Quote from: Duine Inteacht Eile on March 07, 2025, 09:29:53 AMWe need to do more than that. We need to strap on a pair and stop being Ulster GAA's lapdog on the Casement Park issue. They have been keeping us on the never never for far too long waiting on the non-existent money man to ride in on his white horse. And we have just accepted it.
We need to withdraw support for the never never stadium and begin campaigning that the GAA uses the substantial sum of £120 million to put right the wrongs of the last 15 years.
They've shown that they have little sympathy or loyalty for us on our stadium plight but we continue to support them like we have Stockholm syndrome.

Bingo.

How do we support them or not support them?

As in what does this Stockholm syndrome support look like beyond trying to get a stadium built.

And by not supporting do you mean tell them to ffff off elsewhere for their provincial stadium?

By going along with their mad idea that waiting forever for funding for the super stadium is the best idea.
By standing idly by and having our county ground closed.
By having our clubs, players and past players rolled out on social media supporting Ulster GAA's version of Casement.

Instead, we ask for Ulster GAA to build what they can for £120 million. We get our clubs, players and past players to campaign for this. We start beating the drum that Ulster GAA's plan has been a total disaster and it needs to change in order to allow us to have a county ground again.

We are the losers in the Casement Park saga but you wouldn't know it. It's time we spoke out.

Fully agree

Caesar

Fully agree with the post above. Sinn Fein also need called out for politicising the Casement Park saga for their own benefit.

As for the Corrigan Park debacle, its a game Antrim have zero chance of winning, so in reality it's a 'shot to nothing' and no better time for Antrim to stand their ground. Corrigan or nowhere!

Agree with this although I wonder could we nip off 25k from the 120m to put portaloos in at Dunsilly.

Alright folks. Armagh blow in here. The missus lives on the Antrim Road, near the waterworks. I'll be moving up over the summer. Who would be the local GAA clubs ?

Hectic

So were you guys always against the Casement vanity project?  Or is it just more recently you feel we should have said enough is enough.

Just curious as I always felt something able to hold around 10-15k would have done nicely for Antrim and would have had more atmosphere than something 2-3 times the size.

But I don't remember much of a groundswell for this.

So just wonder is there a good bit of hindsight being applied when considering what we should have done or how we have been sucking Ulster's balls.

Are you wanting to join a club to play?

You have a choice of a few from Ardoyne out to St Endas but wouldn't be a days trek to any club in Belfast.

So maybe want to look at the levels they play at and decide what suits your own level (including commitment) the best.

Cnoc Bán

Pearses or Ardoyne would likely be the closest to there.

Might depend on whether you are going to be a player or spectator/player/sending kids there as to which club you would choose and what aspirations you would have of them.

tonto1888

At 44 my playing days are long gone sadly. Just as a spectator. Cheers for the replies so far

Looked at fixtures there and they play eachother 16th April, go to that and see who wins lol

SaffronSports

Aye if you're living there it's Ardoyne or Pearses. They both play at the Cricky.

I have been saying the same thing from the very beginning.

Regardless, having been strung along for 15 years, anyone is allowed to decide that Ulster GAA's plan is not working and that they need an alternative.

Hectic

Yeah of course and certainly while I had my views I was not trying to push them through any channels.  And I didn't sense much by way of momentum that way either over the period.

So just think it's a bit of a reach to say we have been suffering from Stockholm Syndrome towards Ulster.

But this current debacle is a sad state of affairs on a lot of levels and much of that I would direct at Ulster GAA.

Many Armagh folk are more than happy for it to be in Corrigan even if it means they are watching on television as opposed to attending.

But maybe the time is right to reassess the whole Casement thing and, as youse have said, focus on what is appropriate and deliverable for Antrim.
