Down to the last 16/17.

Current Form Guide

1) Kerry - Indian sign over Cork and Galvin/O'Se to come back. Best forward line in country.

2) Cork - Injuries to 2 key forwards but still most powerful team in country.

3) Kildare - gathering momentum again. Fit, athletic and signs of getting forward line in order.

4) Dublin - signs of slippage but in last 8. Wellset up defensively and with B Brogan on form will be hard beat.

5) Tyrone - coming up on inside rails. Doubts over the legs of some of the old brigade but younger players coming through and still the best manager in the business.

6) Donegal - regardless of Ulster final result, would see them as best of the rest.

Hoof Hearted

its been Kerry Tyrone and Cork who have won the last 8 and they are still the top 3 IMO

Yet to be decided with Donegal. Very encouraging that they pulled the game out against Tyrone (instead of throwing in the towel as they've continually done in similar circumstances) and have been conceding little (so far), but let's see how we fare against Derry and then Kildare/quarter final opponent. Then we'll know where we are.

Hard to argue with your top five, although the order of the top four may not be set in stone.

Donnellys Hollow

Hold your horses there a minute. Kildare no3 after baytin Laois? Sure they could have rounded up fifteen bucks in Rheban that would have dealt with that Laois team.
There's Seán Brady going in, what dya think Seán?

Kildare still have to beat meath, but then again, sure they only have to turn up!

Kildare are 3rd on this also http://eircomsports.eircom.net/GAA-Football/news/gaa/football/power-rankings-11-July.aspx

Connacht final on Sunday is  Mayo 7th v Roscommon 13th & Ulster final Donegal 6th v Derry 9th
The key to success is to be consistently competitive -- if you bang on the door often it will open

Of course. I apologise! :)

Form rankings are a load of tosh when they are based mostly on provincial matches. Ulster is highly competitive and Munster totally not. Also playing conditions vary hugely from May to September. Why are Kildare ahead of Dublin. Dublin are the provincial champions and beat Kildare on the way to that title. Precisely what criteria is being used to judge that Tyrone are not as good as Dublin or Kildare when there is no basis for the comparison?

This is a waste of time because we don't have an open round-robin championship. Sure if Kildare lose to Meath then Meath become top 5 and Kildare move to bottom of the pack. It is silly to publish form rankings based on a knock-out competition that all the teams haven't even taken part in yet.

Its fairly obvious at this stage that you have some sort of issue with Kildare because nearly all your recent posts are about how overrated Kildare are. Your posts are so obviously biased against them its funny.

Of course rankings in a knockout competition aren't gospel - had Dublin beat Wexford by twenty points and Kildare fell over the line against Laois then Dublin would be ahead of Kildare.

Equally if Tyrone were in the Ulster final on Sunday and beat Derry out the gate they'd be 2nd/3rd - it's all subjective.

Regarding the link you posted that's from a former GAA Journalist who is a Kildare fan, so his view of things mightn't be the most objective, no different than if Paul Curran for example posted his rankings etc.

AZ hit the nail on the head with his post.

As always the betting market is formed and adjusts based on money staked - sure you only have to read Dublin being talked up by people outside of Dublin to see where PP reach those odds and we'll have to listen to the usual suspects when we're knocked out in the quarters saying how Dublin were hyping themselves up blah blah..
