I see myself as more of a nippy wing back to be honest, won't be declaring for Mayo anytime soon though, things aren't that bad in Galway................yet!

I was waiting for you to post!  :D

There is a whole thread dedicated to you being banned from match programes!

Jesus Christ that's a weak team. Padraig Lally's back? Fair play, I don't know if he got a right shot at it. Gary O'Donnell looks like an important player in that company.

I dunno .... It looks a fairly handy side to me. There's a lot of familiar names there. It could be a right good match as both sides could do with the points at this stage. I doubt if James and his men are paying much heed to rumours of dissension in the Galway ranks right now. Time enough for idle speculation when the ref gives the long blast on his whistle./

Would ye make up yer minds!! Is it a good side or not??? All codding and joking aside ..... I dunno. It s nothing new too see very new teams in Mayo but in Galway there is more permanency and change is usually more civilised - even after a bad experience. But this is the first time in my time that I see such a big shift. Of course there are familiar names there and loads of good players.
I never thought that Conroy or young Hoare would be considered midfielders at senior county level. And the 2 together? Well we ll know soon enough. We ll know more by Sunday night.
I m trying to get my head around Hanley at 6. Damn good 3 so why move him. They must have a better 3 and think he can be a good 6? The hf line looks good on paper - provided Bane can play 11. I don't think we've never seen him there before so who knows? RaGS nails it as a weak team. There are a few lads there that iI know little about but I m sure Sniper knows the whole lot. And with the help of God he is right.

Any word on the Mayo team?? Should have been named by now I would have thought??

Bradshaw injured I'm guessing?

Hard to know what to make of the next day. Even that understrength and underperforming Galway team could possibly raise enough of a gallop in Tuam to beat Mayo. Or they could be disasterous and get beaten out the gate.

With the help of God it will be the ..... Honestly, what do you think GalwayBayBoy? I was in Tuam 2 years ago when we won against a Galway team with most of the trimmings on board, as far as I remember? And we were in the middle of a mess of our own making.

There is a couple of things though. James Horan is still in honeymoon status in Mayo but poor O Flaherta never seemed to even have got an opportunity to even consummate any union with his intended.
Mayo is not exactly on solid ground either in spite of a general optimism abroad. We have handed over 2 games we would have won if we had our attack sorted. Tuam is a big game.

It's definitely a weak enough side on paper I think myself.
Our defence is weaker than I have seen it for a long time this year.

It's good to see Kevin Brady back in maroon though. He is a quality player though maybe lacking physique for county football.Won an AI u21 medal in 2002
Danny Cummins gets his long awaited start for the seniors. There has been a lot of talk about Cummins over the past few years ever since he was - supposedly controversially - ommitted from the 2007 minor panel which went on to win the AI. I have seen him play a few times between club games and a handful of county underage games (plus any time he came off the bench for the seniors) and to be honest I haven't been impressed at all. Hopefully I'll be proved wrong but he has done very little in any of the games I've seen him play.He is very light and lacking in physique. In the games I have seen him play in he has scored very little as well which doesn't bode well. Having said all that it's good to see him get a chance to prove whether he is up to it or not as getting a few minutes off the bench doesn't give him the chance to do that.
Cillin de Paor had plenty of chances this year and last year and failed to take any of them.

Our midfield pairing look likely to struggle in the aerial battles on Sunday. Conroy is a fine footballer but in senior county football I think he lacks the height and bulk needed for midfield. He might do a decent job there if he had a guy who was good in the air alongside him but sadly we don't have that type of player in Galway at the moment. He is definitely worth a place on the team though possibly in the half forward line or as an extra body playing out around the middle. I don't think Eddie Hoare is county standard to be honest.

It will be interesting to see how Colin Forde gets on in defence. I haven't seen much of him play though I know he was highly regarded in Jarlaths. He was full back on the 2007 AI minor winning team but suffered a bad knee injury the following year against Roscommon in the minor championship and was out for over a year believe. I remember Barry John Walsh (brother of Tommy) giving him the runaround in the minor AI semi final of 2007.

Bradshaw, Meehan and Padraic Joyce are the only 3 real quality players we have due back into the team before the championship (though I would love to see Conor Doherty get a run at wing back in the team - he was brilliant in this position for the 07 minors) which would cause me to worry a lot.
On paper - given where we are at at this moment - Mayo should win on Sunday but I do give us a chance of winning definitely as we are at home.

Well you would have to fancy Mayo as they have been going reasonably despite having only 1 point while Galway have been verging somewhere between average to poor. Both teams have players missing but I think it's fair to say Galway's missing players are a much bigger loss to them than Mayo's are. That said Galway have an outsidish chance and with respect it is Mayo coming to Tuam and not Kerry, Cork or even Dublin with their dander currently up. Teams that would probably demolish us with minimal fuss at the moment (that said a similiarly understrength Galway team did win up in Parnell Park only last year so maybe that undermines my own argument). However that Galway team has too much of a slapdash look to it to be in any way confident. Cummins is far too lightweight to be a full-forward. He may be far too lightweight anywhere even though he is quick. I didn't even know Kevin Brady was back on the panel and here he is playing on Sunday. Hanley is suddenly shifted to 6 to make way for Forde at 3. Granted if you are going to try stuff I guess there are only limited oppertunities to do so between now and the Summer. Cathal Kenny also has only played the odd game for Galway usually in the FBD.

Any word of mayo team yet lads. injuries delaying selection i presume till they're assessed after tonights training?  could we see c o conner blooded for this one? lads who impressed in fbd such as j burke, d killeen and c freeman not given a shot yet, be interesting to see if they will at all. hard to put your case forward without a run

Great to see kilcullen back but is midfield really his best spot? but number 6 seen to be untouchable as
the Cafferkey mystery goes on and on. it looks like if a new position has to be invented to give him a game the mayo management will do it. surely hes running out of chances
