Why is there a black section on the crossbar of a GAA goalpost?

You were obviously listening to the radio the the other morning? Was it Hector or Darcy?? Anyway an oul fella in our club reckons it's the GAA's way to remember the victims of the famine.

It's the bonus for pre-training crossbar challenge, one point for hitting the bar, two for the black spot. No other possible reason for it.

Other than for denoting the middle of the goal I doubt there's much other significance.

I was under the impression that the centre of the crossbar is always to be black as a mark of respect to those who were murdered in Croke Park on Bloody Sunday.

It's to mark the middle of the goal. It's fairly easy to stump Hector if he didn't know that.
