Blu-ray

A few quick questions about Blu-ray and HDTV etc.... I have a PS3 and an HD Ready LCD TV. I wouldn't be much of a tech genius so maybe someone might be able to shed light on a few questions for me.


1. Do you need HDTV to get the benefit of watching a blu-ray dvd on your PS3 or would a "HD Ready" TV do the job? (as I say, the TV I have is LDC and HD Ready)

2. What is the difference between HD and HD Ready TV's?

3. Does the PS3 blue-ray make a HD 'Ready' TV into HD?

4. Is there much difference in ordinary DVD & Blu-Ray?

Just loking into it online more, would I be right in saying I would need an HDMI cable from the PS3 to the TV to get the benefit of High-def?

need a hdmi from ps3 to tv, hd ready is apparently the same as hd below 42" or maybe even a wee bit bigger.  Stick in the hdmi and connect to the hd tv, the ps3 might prompt you about what settings to enter next, if not you'll have to do it manually - google how!

HDTVs contain an HD tuner allowing you to receive high definition, for example from your house antenna's over the air signal reception.

HD_READY TVs contain everything necessary to display high definition except that HD tuner. To display high definition, you need a separate high definition tuner box

Cheers for the advice, just hit ebay up for one of the cables there. Did some amount of googling there. They don't make all this HD/HD Ready/Blu-Ray/HDMI stuff straight forward do they

but what do you mean when you say hd ready can't receive hd tv - do you mean like channels broadcasting in hd?

nally, did you not get a hdmi cable with the ps3? What are you connecting the ps3 to the tv with, scart?

I just want to learn.

I bought a HD ready tv a few months back and it's outstanding but now I see hd tvs for double the money that I paid ,I don't understand the difference. and now they're talking about 3D tvs. They're just trying to sell more tvs!

Shit I don't know  And I have no idea where I left the instructions or any other cables that might have came with the playstation! Ah well, the one I just ordered on ebay was £2 and free postage! Yeah PS3 is connected via scart at the minute. Would the HDMI cable replace the scart connection or will they both have to be used together?

No it replaces it. There's really not a massive difference but there is a difference (on the xbox anyway)
