Chin up Milltown, I think Cody lost his first All Ireland Final, in '99.

They were better, faster, sharper hurlers all over the field. We had our moments in the first half and could have nicked a couple of goals. Aidso's height gave Kavanagh a few problems. Ultimately their scoring power was far, far superior. Still a few good performances from the St. Galls lads though- CJ, Karl and Aidso in particular. Johnny Flynn scored a beauty of a sideline cut from a ridiculous angle.

In the junior, Blackrock had the match won before the throw in such was the gulf in class and for a junior team, they had a hell of a lot of good, tidy, quick players. The Tyrone boys never gave up though and nearly stole a goal towards the end. Hurling needs clubs like Colm Cille in traditionally weak hurling counties in order to grow, and to see a Tyrone hurling team play a final in Croke Park was fantastic.

Few things from last night that emphasised for me the greatness of the GAA:

1) The size of the support Blackrock brought with them. Massive crowd, young and old.

2) Ollie O'Connor, the Freshford #13. This guy was one of my earliest hurling memories. Think it was the 1993 All-Ireland Minor final where the guy looked incredible. Fast with great technique and skill. Was quite small though so never made the senior county panel as far as I know, certainly not for the championship. To see him hurling away with all those touches and flicks that I only faintly remembered as a six year old was incredible. Think he got either 1-2 or 2-1 last night.

3) Two girls sitting near me who had driven down from Carrickmore to watch the matches and were driving back up afterwards. They had no link with either the Colm Cille team or the St. Galls team, they simply drove down to Dublin on a cold February night to show their support for Ulster hurling. Great to see.
