Kildare and Laois deserve any suspensions they get for stupidity alone ffs John Doyle is captain and should know better. The punishments will be similar to two years ago but the Dubs make great copy so there will be less of the hand-wringing plus it was a HEC weekend so plenty of other things happening to keep it out of the news, no TV camera's helps as well.

Saw Eamonn Fennell out at Páirc Ciceam last week and truth be told he didn't play too well ( understandable after lay off). A big lad who imo should stay out of the gym to improve his mobility.

Not too convinced that he is championship material but would love to be proved wrong.

Just to let people know I'm not in favour of his proposed transfer to vincents. Just in case people think I'm changing my stance in relation to outside players because its my club. We had a guy who played midfield on the Dublin minors last year. He'll probably be sitting on the bench because of this. Thats Dublin football for you.

Jinxy

Thought Mark Ward was poor again yesterday.
Bad tackling, poor attempts at fielding and a lot of aimless hoofs into the forwards.
Was happy to see Brian Meade come on TBH.
If you were any use you'd be playing.

Quotelot of aimless hoofs into the forwards

He wasn't alone in that Jinxy. In fact both teams were guilty in that regard

Jinxy

We put some good ball in during the first half.
Stopped kicking it altogether in the 2nd half.
Maybe the breeze was stronger than I thought.
Every time it got to Queeney he did something with it so it was pretty frustrating watching them trying to run it out of defence and through midfield.
If you were any use you'd be playing.

Why is your man whingeing about the Kildare/Laois match then Jinxy?  :P

He'll be on to Joe Duffy tomorrow proclaiming his outrage!

Ha, Like our Laois friends who are big fans of that show as we know.

I wasnt whinging, was half joking but half serious, its double standards for a lot of counties when it comes to this stuff.

Anyway nothing gives me more pleasure than to see Laois lose a game of ball so....

Well your view held at last nigt's CB meeting Indiana. Clubs voted 33 all and Harrington gave casting vote in refusing transfer request.

If he hadn't voted against, that would've been the floodgates opening.

I think this is going to get messy now - Croker have already told the DCB they don't want to get involved - I can't see him transferring to a club in Meath as he works as a GPO in Cabra...it may be the only available to him though..

Declan

I can see both sides of the argument heffo but to me this indicates that the club "own" the player so to speak which completely contradicts the amateur ethos.
I suppose the ironic thing is that in reality you could count one one hand the number of club games a Dublin intercounty player plays for his team during a particular year.

The Dublin County Committee has issued a statement regarding the denial of Eamon Fennell's transfer application.

The statement read: 'The Dublin County Committee last evening considered an application from Eamon Fennell to transfer from O'Toole's to St Vincent's GAA Club.

'A player who wishes to leave one club to join another must apply to the County Committee for a transfer.

'A County Committee has the right, acting within its Bye-Law, to grant or not to grant an application for transfer. The committee refused to grant the transfer application.'

The Dublin Transfer Byelaw states: 'As the GAA is community centred, based on the allegiance of its members to their local clubs, the object of which is to promote the Association's aims at local level, the transfer rules in the Official Guide and this Bye-Law reflect that ethos.

'A player is considered to always owe allegiance and loyalty to the club he first legally participated with in club competition.'

To me there is a lot of contradictions and hypocrisy about this statement. They're saying that in a way all these rules must apply in their decision making about eamons situation, but if it were a less high profile player the rules are more than usually forgotten about. We all know of players in the past transfering to other clubs in the county, and i've never seen a statement about by laws released like this.A the end of the day someone is gonna feel short changed about this whole thing.Hope for eamons sake, dublins sake, and our whole club scene in generals sake that it gets finally sorted, cause by the sound of things it aint over just yet.

I find the DCB statement containing words such as community centred, allegiance, loyalty, ethos, nurtured, etc. to be a tad ironic given their silence on Parnells using "incentives" to acquire players.

Total coincidence that Parnells come into big money, and suddenly they are acquiring new players...

In relation to the matter-I'd prefer if our club developed its own players.  Thats my view.

Heffo is right- if it had gone through- dublin will lose 10-20 clubs within 10 years. Small clubs are being decimated by players leaving them to go to bigger outfits. This isn't cut and dried as some may think- the transfer has been a mess from start to finish. A total mess from all sides.

Canalman

A ruling that was never going to please everyone and I feel sorry for Eamonn Fennell being caught in the middle of it. Can't personally blame him for wanting to leave O'Tooles who are/were one of only 3/4 clubs in the county I feared playing...... and not for their playing prowess.

However, I feel that a clear message has gone out that the "rights" of"smaller clubs" cannot be disregarded. The "rights" of individual players I admit has been sidelined for better or worse.

Still, this can and possibly will lead to some clubs vindictively not allowing transfers even when players completely fall out with the club.

This is going to rumble on.

Declan

Would he play his club football in Meath I wonder ;) ;)
