There is probably a place for them for bigger clubs, but they have no errand playing in the junior championship.
There should be a separate 3rds league.
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either

Puredud

3rds should play the preliminary round to decide who gets in to 1st round

tyroneman4

Insomnia has been brutal lately. A five-minute chat with Paddy Hunter should cure it

tyroneStatto

Eskra well beaten, thought they could have caused a shock. Maybe Fintona are the real deal after all.

square_ball

Just the 118 points total winning margin in the 6 junior matches so far. 91 of that came from the 3rds teams.

Thirds teams need a seperate league. End of story. Not helping anyone! It's not to give lads football because the average age of the thirds teams is 40+.

Exactly this. The Cookstown line up last night like a reunion of their all Ireland intermediate winning teams plus a few ringers from lads that have played for different clubs.

The Bearded One

Derry have a recreational league, there is a model out there. Most of these thirds teams are glorified Dads and Lads outfits.
It is what it is. Presumably.

I don't think you can just say all thirds teams must enter a 'recreational' league though.

Errigal and Donaghmore thirds would be much more serious outfits than Omagh and Cookstown.

I think seeding the championship draw would be a good start - essentially force the thirds teams into the preliminary round. And it's certainly worth discussing a fourth tier championship - the gap in junior is still very sizeable.

100% - from the outside looking in. It seems accomodating thirds teams in junior is actually harming the genuine clubs, less reserve fixtures = Less lads interested.

Fintona look they could win this at a canter
judging by the weekend fairy there'll be a few teams hoping to avoid them

Both mentioned teams are a pantomime ffs. At least there's ballers in Errigal team but they are playing the game too. Not helping the genuine clubs at all. Forcing them to play senior games only and no reserve games. Plus on a different day than any other teams in the county.

Keep the third teams in for as long as they wish to get wiped out, a good exercise to disabuse the barstool pundits that junior grade isnt a joke

The Bearded One

I said "most" and Errigal Ciaran are the exception.

Donaghmore won 4 points in the league, you can't say that is anything other than recreational. Yes they may pick up a few more players for a championship game but otherwise it's a gather up.

I would agree with the idea of playing all thirds teams in some sort of qualifying process and the winner goes into the main championship competition.
