Teams fielding weaker teams, agreeing on a draw or giving points has always been an issue towards the end of the league season especially involving those clubs that have nothing to play for so are focused on championship.

A possible solution to that could be waiting until the league is finished before making the championship draw and using league positions for a seeded draw. For example the top 8 teams in the league are in one pot and are drawn against a team in the other pot made up of the 8 bottom teams in the league.

That way it's still a fairly open draw but it will get rid of those dead rubber games for clubs who are safe from relegation and not challenging for the league title like we see currently.

Going into the final fixture of division 2 it's between aghaloo and kildress for automatic relegation and between drumquin, clogher, killeeshil, derrylaughan and rock for the remaining relegation playoff spot.

Aghaloo need to beat clogher and hope greencastle beat kildress to avoid automatic relegation.

Kildress will avoid automatic relegation if they get at least a point but will also avoid it if they lose to greencastle and aghaloo fail to beat clogher.

Both derrylaughlan and rock will secure safety with at least 1 point from their fixtures. Either killeeshil or clogher failing to win would also sure their safety.

Both Killeeshil and clogher will secure safety with a win although a rock win vs drumquin will secure their safety regardless.

Drumquin have to beat the rock to have a chance to avoid a relegation playoff. Although a win might not guarantee safety as if either killeeshil or clogher were to draw or derrylaughlan were to lose then it will be point difference that will decide the final relegation playoff spot. Although an 8+ point win for drumquin would make certain of their safety regardless of any of those scenarios as it would guarantee them to have a better points difference than the rock.

Removal of play offs has created a load of dead rubbers in Div 1 & 2
Has made League Football a joke
Teams nothing to play for for weeks

The league is exactly what we have made of it.
It's entry into the equivalent level of championship.
Winning the senior league carries no credibility and risks your team/ players for the subsequent championship ( which is what its all about)
Essentially this year given the league timetable, players could have started their competitive football in June, be finished with any "competitive" games in July and wait to play one game in September (for 50% of the teams anyway)
If league position facilitated a seeded championship draw that would be a reasonable incentive. But the only way to make the league better is to reward good league performance with championship advantage.
Same to a degree with intermediate and junior, your goal of winning the league is to get promoted and for a chance to play at a higher level. Promotion play offs kept teams in it to a degree and allowed for competitive football to the end of the season.
Teams that come up through promotion play off don't necessarily get relegated the year after.
What happens is a good/great intermediate team drops points or draws and therefore cant win the league because another good team goes unbeaten, intermediate is relatively competitive but more seasons than not its two teams who barely drop points but only one can win it, the play offs rewarded the overall good performance of the runner up with a chance at promotion ( outside of the championship) i think it should come back for that reason. Its just a structural
Nightmare with games being played in October/november in wind and rain... when not a ball kicked all spring.

Are you sure ET23? You might be right as I'm not sure myself - but I thought the 3 team tie went to like a mini league ie. who got the most points in the games between the tied teams that are involved

Anyone know any of the championship games be on the dodgey stick today?

OnTheLoop

Championship Predictions - (Liable to change)

Seniors - KC to win Coffee derby and go on to shock Tyrone, although winners of Carmen/Dromore could have a say.
Intermediate - Gortin to take advantage of the bye from NE.
Junior - Does anyone on here actually care?

Unless Errigal can get a few key men back you'd have to fancy Killyclogher.

Doesn't seem to be. Tyrone TV doesn't look to working either, a real shambles

TyroneFan100

This weekend championship predictions.
Fintona vs Urney- Easy win for the pearses to get their double bid underway, I'd say somewhere between 10-15pts.
Stewartstown vs Strabane- similar result, north Tyrone won't get many winners in this years championship in any division.
Eskravs Augher- the best of this weekends games eskra by 3-6pts.

Wouldn't surprise me if it was true and Conroy fit to play but they don't want to show their hand. Silly idea from them. However they'll be nowhere near it this year considering best player Mcgearey done the ACL. Poor season all around from the moy men

Heard Martin keenan paid greencastle to let kildress take the points
