Quote from: J70 on Today at 01:32:03 PMFor a moment I thought maybe Trump would finally get hoisted on his own petard, given that he was happy to ride the Epstein list all the way to political success, with his own son and current VP and FBI director fueling the hype for years, all while Trump himself looked to have some level of guilt in the whole sordid affair.

I've no idea how MAGA have squared that circle. That Trump would bring down these supposed Democratic paedo rings, especially Epstein, while at the same time he refuses to condemn Maxwell for her horrifying, evil actions. Then, he gets in again, and his minions make a big show out the gate with binders supposedly full of names and details handed over to MAGA personalities, before a few months later, Bondi, Patel and Bongino announce that there is suddenly nothing to reveal (one wonders why?!)! Then we get into months of sweetheart treatment for Maxwell, slow revelations of Trump's pally relationship with Epstein, and then him trying to intimidate his party into suppressing the information, including having the pathetic (but very "Christian") House Speaker basically shut down the House of Representatives for weeks and refuse to seat a new Dem representative who will provide the vital 218th signature to bring the release of the files to a vote. Once she's seated, then he desperately and disgustingly tries to bully the four hardline MAGA representatives who've committed to the vote into reversing their decision, only to lose that fight. In the end he gives in (presumably with assurances from Bondi and Patel on what will see the light of day), but mainly because he has no choice. Yet, after all that, the MAGA movement will stay with him.

Which means Trump will get off scott-free like he always does. If there IS anything incriminating, he'll have it suppressed or locked up for some bullshit reason like he did with his tax returns, which for years he "couldn't" release because he was supposedly under audit. Any stuff that is merely embarrassing or that would be a career-ender for any normal politician or public figure, he'll just brazen it out as always and move the next scandal that will roll along in a couple of days. Would any other politician get away with a revelation that he spent hours in a room with one of Epstein's young victims? Can you imagine any other politician getting away with the shit he's pulled in just the past few days with that reporter ("quiet piggy"), his cruel and deranged comments towards Thomas Massie's personal life, his stupid attacks on MTG, one of the few who never wavered in her support of him following January 6th?

And even aside from the Epstein stuff, he's tanking the economy with his insane tariff policies. He's spouting nonsense about 50 year mortgages and direct payments for healthcare costs and the US being in a "golden age" of economic growth, all while his ICE/CBP thugs invade blue cities to harass and intimidate and abduct poor brown people.

I guess MAGA are delighted with that last policy, but what about everything else he's doing? Is it all really, at the end of the day, just about making the libs cry? Even if it comes at a cost to themselves? Even if he is only out for his own personal, corrupt, interest, as MTG has finally, and at long last, realized?

Trump is a spoofer of the highest order

We all know that the stunt with the folders was nothing short of theater

But the Democrats have learnt nothing-they swing at every single pitch

It's very likely that the Democrats could come out of this looking worse than Trump

And let's see how Jeffries comes out of all this-mind boggling to say the least

And many people in my orbit could give 2 fvcks about what Trump said to that journalist. As the recent BBC debacle showed.....they're out to get him and the only way to handle it is to fight fire with fire

Its kind of impenetrable unless you have direct knowledge. The recent trump policy direction may point to blackmail but hes generally chaotic, doesnt actually have control of underlings who are thinking of Post Trump world.

For example he had a disastrous interview on Fox news with Laura Ingraham where he changed subject to black voters. Looked very sus.

On other hand hes Teetotal and seems like old skool sex with hookers /models guy and is a germophobe.

The other possibility is Trump is playing games, making it appear as if hes involved so Democrats get very animated and push for releasing files so he can say to GOP israel goons he has no other option.

There's rumoyrs that some senior Israelis are implicated and other rumours that Epstein was a Mossad agent

So much said in 1 small paragraph

It's a sad state of affairs but the media only have themselves to blame

Armagh18

Keir Starmer, Micheál Martin Simon Harris are absolutely despicable peixks in my opinion and totally useless politicians, but I can't picture any of those 3 coming out with a statement like shut up piggy. And if they ever did, they'd be gone within a day.

It's complete madness.

LOL

For 4 years the media covered for his opponent and flat out lied to the American people

Were it not for the debate it would never have been laid bare

As Tony Soprano said "those who want respect, give respect"

Trump may not have specifically called for violence on January 6th, but it's basically a distinction without a difference, as he and his minions did all they could to foment it in the weeks leading up to it and the day of. It was a bit like Paisley's role in the incitement of violence during the Drumcree protests in the late 90s that lead to the murder of the three Quinn boys in Ballymoney, except that in Paisley's case he could claim at least a little distance.

On the BBC, I've no sympathy for them or what they did, especially as they didn't need to do it. However, I hope they fight the case and do not bend over as the various media corporations in the US have done to curry favour, most ludicrously on that Kamala interview.

As for people who see no issue with Trump calling a female reporter a pig, well, that says a lot about them and their attitude towards women. He's sticking it to the libs, so who cares about a little misogyny and cruelty here and there. And ironically during the same week when Trump is implicated on spending hours alone with one of Epstein's young victims.

RedHand88

Were people as outraged when Obama made the "you can put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig" comment about a female political opponent?

Not a Trump fan BTW by any stretch, just wondering.

Evidence?

Biden's team certainly covered it up, for various reasons presumably involving self-interest and careers, but the general media?

Biden was always gaffe-prone. He was clearly less vigorous, but all of that was evident in the 2020 campaign, yet he still won. The right wing hyped it up beyond belief in 2020, yet Biden held his own in those debates.

I recall plenty of questioning about Biden, especially once he decided to run again, but where can it go beyond that if his circle and the party bosses protect him? Jon Stewart went through them for a shortcut months before the debate, but until they had to put him out there in the debate when a lot of the public were starting to pay attention, it was just chatter and speculation.

Is there a clamour for Trump to stand down at the moment with the obvious questions about his health and sanity that are always about and that are increasing? Yes, to be fair, Trump is out and about and in our face way more than Biden was, but he is clearly suffering from some element of decline, not least exhibited in that recent Ingraham interview.

No, for two reasons.

1. Obama was talking about policies in a debate setting, not directing a personal slur at Sarah Palin.

2. McCain himself had used the expression earlier in the campaign when talking about a Hillary Clinton policy.

Fox News etc of course tried to make hay with it, but it, justifiably, fell flat.

It's well established that Trump is a misogynist. Talked of grabbing women by the ....
