Just come off another forum and they are all saying the same. Will watch Ch4 + 1 as the wein is wathing Rory the racing car at the minute.

They are supposed to be tremendous and though films/ dramatisation usually bastardise the book version this is supposed to do them reasonable justice. Have not read them myself but intend to.

The books are great, though really grim reading at times. David Peace can be hard going but his books are definitely worth the effort, particularly if you like your fiction against a factual background (the ripper, the miners' strike, clough, etc.)

I really,really enjoyed 'The Damned United', but found '1974' (the first of the Red Riding series) very, very grim indeed - a bit gratuitous even.  I felt there was a 'talking up' of the 'hardness' of the 70s in Yorkshire.  That said, I've taped the first two episodes, and am looking forward to watching them all.
