Quote from: AustinPowers on November 11, 2025, 08:31:33 PMIs it safe to  put expanding spray foam  around electrical wires?

The electric wire coming into the garage  from outside is fed through  a tubing . Noticed  water coming  through the tubing when it rains,  and  coming inside . Needs sealing.  Would the expanding foam  be safe  enough to use?
I wouldn't. I've seen it more or less eat through the insulation on cables after a while, if it's a steel wire armour cable you might be ok but I still wouldn't use it personally. Is expanding foam even waterproof anyway?
Why not just use silicone?

Never thought of that . Must check if I have some. That would be  safe enough to use, I take it?

Yeah it's fine to use.

Thanks. I'll try that.

Am looking to replace an integrated oven and microwave. Different brands so not a straight swap but the dimensions are the same and going in the same spot. Relatively handy to do without paying additional for installation? I'm no pro but I can use a screwdriver and know how to wire a plug like.

Is it an all in one unit or two separate as in an oven and a separate microwave?
Really then it depends on if it (the oven) is hardwired or just plugged in. If it's just plugged in then it's a straight swap if it's hardwired then you will have to wire a cable into the back of the new oven.

Cheers. Separate oven and microwave, shelf in between them. Existing oven is wired in rather than a plug. Not sure about new one but it's pyrolitic so imagine probably needs directly wired as well.

Yes most definitely hardwired as that type of oven would be a big enough load current wise so a big cable feeding it also. They can be tricky enough to wire in as they never make the terminals big enough!
Make sure you turn everything off if you do attempt it yourself and don't just isolate it with the wall switch if there is one, turn it off at the fuse board, have seen enough cooker switches fail in my time that I'd never trust one to totally isolate the circuit.
