Good man it was Monroe who scored from the 45 from play. Greatest goal of all time only for Damian Campbell to rule it out  for offside

This often gets called a bad Kerry team but I think a lot of that is due to the final being so poor. A team with Maurice Fitz, Seamus Moynihan and Darragh Ó Sé could hardly be classified as poor.
The 5 other forwards weren't the greatest but when you include such an outlier like Maurice Fitz and average them out, then it's still better than most.
From 1-9, they were definitely more than decent.
Their path mightn't have been the toughest but that doesn't make a team bad, the Kerry team of the 70s and 80s often had much easier paths.
There were still some decent teams in the country e.g. Meath, Mayo, Galway, Tyrone, Derry.
Kerry also won the league final against Cork in Cork that year, and a lot of that team won the All-Ireland again in 00.

If it wasn't for the combined efforts of Kildare and Offaly John Bannon Jody Devine a serious team would have won that All Ireland in 97.

;)

He may have had a change of heart.
