This time last year louth were ranked about 20/21st for people to say they are 10/11th now speaks volumes for how well they did this year, same goes for ourselves

Monaghan were aweson in beating Armagh and Fermanagh. Kildare have stuttered their way through qualifiers.

If Monaghan had have had more than 6 days to get over their Ulster Final defeat I think they would have beaten Kildare.

Kildare just dont do it for me though I accept they are grinding out results I think they are over-rated.

Stuttered?

Kildare 0-15 0-15 Antrim (AET)
Antrim 0-9 1-15 Kildare
Kildare 1-12 0-5 Leitrim
Derry 1-9 2-17 Kildare
Monaghan 1-11 1-15 Kildare

You could point to the Antrim game in Newbridge as Kildare 'stuttering' but you have to remember the exceptional circumstances in which that game was played. Dermot Earley snr was only buried a few hours before the throw in and it had clearly been an emotional day for a lot of the team. Perfectly understandable that Kildare were a bit flat that evening and failed to put Antrim away despite having the opportunities.

The Antrim and Derry games up the north followed a similar pattern. Slow starts but tore them both apart in the second half. The Leitrim game was fairly unconvincing but realistically it was a game Kildare were never going to lose and it was played in absolutely abysmal weather conditions.

Monaghan were fairly flat last week but Kildare could have beaten them by nine or ten points if Johnny Doyle hadn't lost his shooting boots down a bog-hole in Allenwood.

We're still well off the top three (Kerry, Tyrone, Cork in that order) but I think there are maybe four or five teams in the second tier who are at roughly the same level. Kildare/Meath/Dublin/Monaghan (Possibly Down and Limerick as well) are all capable of beating one another on their day. The Connacht form doesn't look good judging by Mayo, Galway and Sligo's performances in the qualifiers and a lot of the Ulster teams look to have fallen back.

Spooky, I just saw this now after mentioning the bogs in Allenwood today on the other thread. Surely this is the first time Allenwood has been mentioned in 2 different topics within 1 day, without being intentional :D

Three times AZ. Check out the Dermot Earley (Laochra Gael) thread re the teams Paul Earley has managed!

If i was going on championship form alone I would rate them something like this

1. Tyrone
2. Kerry
3. Cork
4. Monaghan
5. Meath
6. Kildare
7. Dublin
8. Sligo
9. Down
10. Limerick
11.Roscommon
12. Louth
13. Wexford

You have two teams who beat Sligo in the championship, both below Sligo in the rankings?

this proves the stupidy and lack of knowledge in these posts.
Down hockey sligo by 19 points but are below them
Down hockey Kildare by 11 in the league and are below them
Down beat Meath by 5 in league but still below them.

joke

Mayo beat Cork, Kerry and Tyrone in the league.
Do you see where I'm going with this?
If you were any use you'd be playing.

Dublin only 6th, no Louth in the top 10?

Are you serious? The way they have played, IMO they just about merit a top 10!

1. Tyrone
2. Cork
3. Kerry
4. Kildare
5. Down
6. Sligo
7. Roscommon
8. Limerick
9. Dublin
10. Louth

All due respect but Roscommon beat London, Letrim and Sligo (albeit a highly impressive Sligo team) and they are the 7th best team in the country....  :-\ :-\

Well, they are the Connacht Champions after all, and as i write, are one of only four unbeaten counties in this year's championship. That will probably change on Sunday, but for now they would have to be rated somewhere in this year's top 10.

Other than swapping Cork and Tyrone I  would pretty much agree with that.
I'm gonna show you as gently as I can how much you don't know.

So, how many places do Down climb/Kerry slip after today. Are Down now 2nd best team in Ulster?

Aye, this afternoon's result illustrates the folly of these types of discussions, especially mid-season.
