The bridge seem to always get over the line in tight matches, long winter for bellaghy after conceding those 2 goals

screenexile

Bridge have to be worried about midfield for the next round Bellaghy pressed the kickouts well and won a serious amount of ball when kicked long.

The play just before half time and a couple of balls they put out over the sideline in the second half will cause them nightmares when they look back on it!

Newbridge Exile

Not good for the ticker a game like that but it's a sign of the character the lads have  to get over the line without being anywhere  near their best.

Newbridge done well to dig that one out but from neutral I thought Bellaghy deserved it. The arsing about before half time was the killer in the end.

What about the Bellaghy two pointer in the first half that wasn't given, 100% it was over.  Umpire gave it wide and the lineman signalled that it was a score, also told Bellaghy management it was over.
Went to tell Benny Quinn and he waved him away and gave the wide. Very poor not to at least stop the game for a quick conversation.

Hard to know....

Honestly really difficult to tell on TV whether it was over or not....

Very hard to tell from where we were sitting. But it's not the first time you've had an issue with this Referee. I thought it was the best championship game of the season so far and if I am being honest,I thought he added in making the game as exciting as it was.

Agree on this point. Bellaghy really squeezed the kick outs and Newbridge couldn't win break ball nor clean ball. Sean young in particular had a super game. Charlie Diamond scored a couple of great 2 points. Anyone know why Declan Cassidy didn't start because he was very good in helping the game turn in Bellaghy's favour. The goal before half time was a massive score. From a position of being in attack,to losing possession and within 20 conceding a goal at the other side disastrous

Cassidys two pointer looked over, bellaghy done a great job blocking out for kickouts but what the hell where they doing in the last phase of play before HT. Sean Youngs goal with the weaker foot is as composed a finish as you'll get.

Don't know why the bellaghy manager wanted a go at Padraig McGrogan but it was good entertainment even his chances wouldn't be very good

Not hard to know it was over. I was straight in line with it and at no time did the ball go outside post. Surrounded by Newbridge on all sides and they all said it was over, albeit quietly.
7 people can give the refs opinions, they have to listen. Don't care who the ref is.

Stickman

Referee has form for overruling linesmen in championship games. Previously heard by players stating "I'm sticking with him because umpires are so hard to get and he won't come out next week" when the linesman told him that a "wide" was actually a score

I know what you mean but most of the talk has been around Desertmartin and Coleraine  ;D

You'd probably have Craigbane as slight outsiders, though they've a few very good young players coming through. Not much to split the other 3 teams at all.

Quote from: HonDerry on October 04, 2026, 08:33:33 AM100% agree on the refereeing, although I think Kilrea could have felt a wee bit aggrieved by a couple of second-half decisions.

Ciaran Canney is a cut above the rest. No theatrics and no making it about himself just gets on with refereeing the game. In the championship so far he has established as top performer and I for one would like to see him get a county final.

Glen were never in too much danger in the final quarter. Kilrea's lack of fitness told in the end and watching their management in the last eight or nine minutes, I felt they saw that too. There's a side there that could be worked with, though.

The Lavey–Magherafelt game was thoroughly enjoyable. Lavey haven't really impressed in the championship so far, but they can hold their heads high after that performance. As mentioned, Sargent stood out and I thought Patrick McGurk, Ryan Mulholland and Ciaran Hendry were very good too.

Good to see our county keeper Lynch putting in performance after performance. It was a quiet night for Matthew Downey, thanks to Conor McCluskey. Conall and Dan Higgins stepped up when the game was in the melting pot, while McEvoy showed his versatility.

Magherafelt will need to get the shooting boots on for the next day, but they certainly showed their spirit in the final 10 minutes when it counted
Cathal doherty had a shocking performance. NO balls, didnt want to offend any of the Glen hierarchy. Paddy Devlin on the line too, useless.
