Honestly no. Around Covid some of them went straight from 20p to 50p then they all caught on that it's not a convenience they're housing, it's a means to extract money.

Honestly no. Around Covid some of them went straight from 20p to 50p then they all caught on that it's not a convenience they're housing, it's a means to extract money.

Air was 20p in my local garage until 18 months ago when it jumped to a pound. Was down 6 months ago and fired tge pound in but wasn't working, so I went into the shop thinking it was broke, but was told it had went up to 1.50 hence why my nugget did nothing.

I actually know 2 garages that still have the free air. Beside it is the free water.  Obviously on a need to know basis...and nobody else needs to know. 


They are both in different counties and I'm surprised they haven't went automatic.


Funny enough, the odd time I go to one of them, the pressure guage thing is broke and it's not working. I'd go back a month later thinking they'll make it 'pay for air' machine but no, fixed and ready for action.


Some of the new machines give you 8 mins for £2. Very expensive for 30 sec. They should regulate the time and adjust that. Be fairer but, as someone above says, it makes money. In fairness, might be costly enough to install a machine like that.

I keep a wee electric pump in the yoke, which has paid for itself several times in terms of getting home with a puncture, but it also prevents any need to deal with price gouging in garages.

Used the Go station in Armagh midweek, not even a coin slot now for air, had to use card. unclear how much it cost til i checked the app later - £1, felt like I got 2 mins.

Everyone in the house has an AA tyre inflator in the boot. About 30 quid - worth investing in.

Our house currently has 4 cars on the road

The tire pressure sensors will often act up if there are swings in temp or humidity

Like you everyone in our house has a tire gauge and an air pump. Even driving a few miles to put air into a tire can damage it

The basket of basic food items in Ireland has risen by approximately  17.5% since 2020.

Butter in Ireland is 42% more expensive in 6 years! And farmers still complaining lol

Just to underline that farmers aren't making a killing - Glens of Antrim went under yesterday.

Now possibly a lot of their cost was in the crisps end, I've no idea.

But a pretty sizable agricultural operation and they've hit the wall.

Any newer car will already have one due to the no-spare-tyre-use-some-pointless-gum-instead bullshit - and IMO its insane not to have one in the boot given how its likely to bail you out of a hole at least once.

Seen that and its unfortunate for sure, 95 redundancies is a sizeable operation.. My poor joke is just that, I deal with a lot of farmers daily from where I work and well aware of difficulties they will bring up, they do like a good moan

As for the Glens of Antrim crisps, I'd put them in the trolley before any other crisps, while not a big crisp eater myself they do manage to disappear fairly sharpish in our house, supporter of local produce when I can over others when shopping, its a pity our wine produce is minor otherwise they'd get a big hit!
