Hilarious video of Maguire marking one of his own teammates 🙂

Quote from: OakLeaf on August 22, 2026, 04:59:09 PMThe workrate was non existent. There's no excuse for that in any game, let alone the first of a new season. They did that quite a bit last season, especially against the so called lesser teams.

Looked back to the type of performance they were throwing in pre-Carrick.

Strange team selection IMO, but I don't think there will be too many of those types of performances accepted this season.

It was bad but as usual the reaction is extreme. I think preseason results are in general meaningless but United's were not good. I wonder is the world cup and late return of players to the fold a factor. Bar Arsenal none of the expected top 6or 7 sides got good results.

I thought Shaw in particular was really bad on the two goals. Token gesture, didn't attack the ball. Cover badly needed there. Dorgu had a terrible game as well. He hit a patch last season where he was excellent but he was way off that Saturday.

Also very frustrating to watch these pretty passing patterns and trying to go through the middle always when Hull were vulnerable down the wings and - I felt - in the air when you had a target man. Really need that focal point and it's not Cunha. Tielemans is quality, he'll be fine. Was mildly disappointed with Santos....one or two bad errors under little pressure concerned me. Positives - Lammens. Thought Mbuemo looked decent but should have converted that big chance. Rashford looked good. Mainoo also.

Don't know a whole pile about Baleba but I'd be surprised if he doesn't add something. He certainly has an athleticism United haven't had in that area for some time.

He'll definitely add a bit of steel in the midfield, and help protect the two centre backs. Could be just what we need. Dorgu probably not a left winger. I'd like to see him back to full back.

Good result at the weekend, although I think it could be a long season for Ipswich.

Could have done with at least another 2 reinforcements but not hearing or expecting much action today.

Criminal to not have bought a left back. Shaw is past it and won't be able to play twice a week. Probably alright everywhere else if Rashford is going to be playing and the centre backs stay/get fit. Right back is at least covered even if the quality isn't wonderful, 5 decent centre backs.

Next year they'll need a top left, right and centre back if they want to push on

Have to do something at left back. Could do with a striker too. Especially if Zirkzee goes even though he's not good enough. United have only one real striker in Sesko. You need someone who is a real threat up there.

History tells us it is unlikely at this late hour.

Yeah a striker would be ideal, but at least Rashford/Mbuemo/Cunha are options even if not their best position.

Hopefully even a loan is done for a left back, can't see any big signing being done today.

Zirkee not going now, so chances are they will not move on a forward.

Should most definitely be looking at a left back as cover if nothing else.

As it stands I'd be more then happy if we finished with the 71 points we got last season, I'm amazed no left back has been bought or even a loan signing to provide cover for Shaw.

I know a lot of fans aren't happy but the reality is the club for a decade were a shambles on and off the pitch and it couldn't continue, wages now are under control and if United can finish top 5 this season then they'll be in a far stronger position too spend more next summer. Given what has been spent by other clubs United's £150m on 3 midfielders looks good business on the face of it although lets see how they play before getting carried away.

Arsenal should win the league although I'd argue the case our front 6 is better then there's but its defensively and squad wise there's no comparison, they have very little drop of between the best player in their best 11 and and their next 11 best players.

Its where United need to be, probably 4 players short of been at that level but we all know there's no guarantee the manager is good enough either.

Could see a massive upturn in performance by Rashford this season. Running into last year of contract end of season so likely up for renewal discussions next summer. It's his form.

A short clip from journalist Henry Winter came up on my social media feed where he claimed Rashford was great at Barcelona and Aston Villa so why didn't either make an effort to sign him permanently?

He also claims Rashford is at his best when he's liked,

To be liked is your own responsibility and is Rashfords past carry on off the field and sulking on the field suddenly going to change to be liked?

It sounds very precious but he's probably just a bit neurotic.

Did I read something once where McClaren or Rangnick commented on him in training? Basically very hard to coach and takes advice as criticism and goes into a shell.

I'd say his current contract and future wage demands are the biggest obstacle to new deals with other parties. I'm sure he'll go all out this year to secure one big final contract.

He didn't try to hard too be liked toward the end of his first spell. Time will tell if he is willing to dig in and fight when it matters.

Still wish he had the attitude to play as a striker as I think he would offer more and score more goals with Bruno playing passes in behind for him to run on too. But he doesn't seem to want to do that for some reason.

Didn't he sulk with Mourinho because he wanted to play central but Jose said he wasn't suited. Eventually got his chance, and low and behold first few clatters he got in the back from CHs he didn't want to know anymore. Was out with a back injury too for good measure.
