Week 5:

Group A:

Ardagh/Moydow v Rathcline, Saturday, 7pm, Farneyhoogan
Dromard v Killoe, Saturday, 7pm, Monaduff
Mullinalaghta v Abbeylara, Saturday, 7pm, Higginstown

Abbeylara 6pts +18
Killoe 6pts +18

Dromard 5pts +6
Mullinalaghta 4pts -1
Ardagh/Moydow 3pts -12
Rathcline 0pts -29

Abbey and Killoe already through here, Abbey having the advantage for the moment on the head-to-head. Dromard - who could have qualified in the match against Abbey by taking their final free outside rather than inside the arc - need a point against Killoe to ensure qualification. Mullinalaghta need to beat Abbey to be certain of going through, a result that would also automatically put Dromard through at the expense of Ardagh/Moydow regardless of the result in Monaduff. A point would do Ardagh if Mullinalaghta lose. In the event of all three ending up on five points then we go into the weeds of championship regulations.

Group B:

Longford Slashers v Granard, Sunday, 2.30pm, Ardagh
Colmcille v Clonguish, Sunday, 2.30pm, Ballyboy
Carrickedmond bye

Clonguish 6pts +25
Granard 4pts +6
Colmcille 4pts -5
Longford Slashers 2pts -2

Carrickedmond 0pts -24

All about placings and head-to-heads in the final round here.

Paddy Power (https://www.paddypower.com/gaelic-games/longford-club-football?tab=outrights):

Clonguish 6/4 5/6 8/11
Killoe 15/8 9/4 3/1
Colmcille 15/8 5/1 13/2
Granard 16/1 15/2 13/2
Abbeylara 16/1 10/1 15/2
Mullinalaghta 12/1 8/1
Dromard 20/1 10/1
Longford Slashers 33/1 12/1
Rathcline 16/1 20/1 33/1 25/1
Ardagh/Moydow 33/1 50/1 25/1 33/1
Carrickedmond 20/1 50/1

Paddy Power not only still offers bets on two teams that are out of the championship, but actually moves one of them in on the betting.

Senior Championship:

Group A:

Ardagh/Moydow 0-14 Rathcline 1-11
Dromard 1-16 Killoe 1-14
Mullinalaghta 1-15 Abbeylara 1-16

Abbeylara 8pts +19
Dromard 7pts +8
Killoe 6pts +16
Ardagh/Moydow 4pts -12

Mullinalaghta 4pts -2
Rathcline 1pt -29

Mullinalaghta lose out on the head-to-head and miss out on the quarter-finals for the first time since 2011.

Group B:

Longford Slashers 0-10 Granard 0-16
Colmcille 2-13 Clonguish 2-14

Clonguish 8pts +26
Granard 6pts +12
Colmcille 4pts -6
Longford Slashers 2pts -8

Carrickedmond 0pts -24

Quarter-final line-up:

Abbeylara v Longford Slashers
Granard v Killoe
Clonguish v Ardagh/Moydow
Dromard v Colmcille

Should be relatively easy progressions for Abbey and Clonguish. Killoe will find it tighter and Dromard/Colmcille looks like a genuine toss-up.

Intermediate Championship:

Group B:

Seán Connollys 1-21 Fr Manning Gaels 0-9
Cashel 0-12 Mostrim 1-18

Semi-Finals:

Grattans v Mostrim
Seán Connollys v Ballymahon

Shamrock Shore

God be with the days when Cashel v Mostrim was likely to have been the county final.

I dunno if we'll beat The Grattans. The Connollys should easily beat Ballymahon.

Meanwhile Columba's are in a dogfight. 2 out of 3 go down.

There will be nervous moments in all 3 parishes.

There is a club there that were meant to go down two years ago but didn't.

What was the actual background of that fiasco that held up the championship.

I forget how it played out.

Mullinalaghta won the actual game by 1 point. But Carrickedmond said the score was wrong or misleading. Their argument being, that in the dying moments they would have went for a goal instead of a point.

What happened then..... did Carrick get into a quarter final?

No. The score in the Mullinalaghta/Carrickedmond match was overturned by the CCC when Tiernan finally admitted that he had got it wrong (he had insisted on changing the score on the scoreboard at the start of the second half because he'd miscounted the number of scores in the first half and we picked up on that immediately at the time and objected to it), they appealed the CCC's decision to Leinster Hearings, the appeal was upheld on one very narrow specific ground by Leinster (the makeup of the CCC) but rejected otherwise on the core of the case. The relegation play-off against Slashers had already been scheduled before news of the limited upholding of the appeal from Leinster came through (unwise by the CCC in my view), Carrickedmond refused to play it, ended up in the relegation final against Mostrim which they did play... and then lost. Not satisfied with this outcome, they then prevailed on County Board delegates to unrelegate them. It didn't actually hold up the championship though.

As far as I'm concerned they were fully entitled to plead their case as far as it could go even if it was inherently doomed. It was the stuff they got up to in the background that was much more dubious.
