Some wins for Mountrath and pickas. Didn't see mountrath slieve bloom but seemed to be a cracker. Getting 6:19 is some scoring. Pickas look very comfortable now in the intermediate after winning the junior 2 years ago. Like to see how far they'll go. The harps and b/k look to be going well enough in the other group and Abbeyleix are a good side in there as well but I'd still reckon the winner of the championship will be one of the 1st teams.

Abbeyleix v The Harps was even enough. Harps snuck it in the end, but they had the slight breeze in the second half. Nothing between them, really.

Conor Headen a massive player for Pickas. A lad like that - on county u20 panel - should be having a big impact at that level, and he seems to be. Don't think they'll have enough to get to the final, though. Often wondered if he'll stay put, or will the much-mooted amalgamation w/ Ballinakill now come back on the agenda?
Some collapse from Trumera, though - conceding 1-14 without reply in the last quarter. They're in big bother.

Mountrath result was a big surprise to me. And Slieve Bloom, I'd say. Mountrath have a few back, I believe, and seem stronger than last year. In reality, for a town like them in the hurling area, they should be competing at a higher level.

Castletown beat Colt/ Shanahoe tonight by a mere 13 points...

Meanwhile Clonad beat Mountmellick by a goal - a barely deserved victory. Mountmellick clawed back a half-time deficit and went in front, but stalled, and when Fionn Holland got his second goal, the impetus went back to Clonad. Mountmellick and Clonaslee might be tussling to avoid the relegation spot from that group.

There will be no amalgamation between Pickas and Ballinakill by all accounts so he's stuck there. Concerning for his development as a player.

Trumera look in real, real trouble. A seriously heavy defeat. They are always fighting for numbers I know but it's a worrying scoreline.

Massive win for Clonad. 2/2 now. Huge for them.

That castletown team should never be down prem intermediate when you see the quality they have.
Some good young players still to develop as well and a lot of good lads home from abroad.

Last year was rough but they are a club with good juv set-up and i like to see clubs like that do well.

Sometimes teams need a manager from outside to help get to next level but they are a example of a team and club who are way better with one of there own. I think in 3-5 years they will be real challengers at the top.

I dont share everyone elses thinking that the inter will be def won by a 1st team. I still think Borris or the Harps, maybe abbeyleix, could win it.

Mrath must feel now they can win the intermediate after a good performance Thurs night a few nice young lads coming through if Sbloom pick up a few injuries there in bother. Ctown have alot of good hurlers on there team and a few lads still to break into it. They have a good Junior A team aswell do Prt will be strong in that grade.

Castletown shouldn't be down is one argument.
But we went down in a 10 team competition.
Didn't beat any of Rosenallis, Ballinakill, The Harps, Abbeyleix, Portlaoise (won 1 lost 1) when they needed to last year.
They couldn't have any complaints.

I believe they have an outside coach?

Ctown last year were down a number of there top players who had gone travelling. Mullaney. Conor Phelan Dylan Conroy etc. Plus this year they have a few good minors up. But last year they deserve to go down. Overall going down for a year migh not to them any harm.

Bit of a beating for Clonaslee, there - and them with a couple sent off in it, and all. I hear they're fighting among themselves up there again. Couldn't be true, surely?!! If that's the case, though, Mountmellick will beat them.
