Well, I mean, the Malvinas are 7,000 miles from England. Just 300 miles from Argentina. And it's the Argentinians who feel they are getting the raw deal. So they're going to care more, aren't they?

But let's not pretend the English don't care. I don't think I saw one news bulletin/preview of the game in the last few days where the english media were not referencing the political/historical significance of the fixture.

So I'll not get annoyed as you appear to be for the "two world wars and one world cup, England f**ked your country up" crew who have just been so terribly offended by a banner!
.

99.8% of the Falklands voted to remain British in the 2013 referendum.
Just 3 people voted No.
Some people seem to be all for self determination when it comes to the 6 counties, but not the Falklands, no. That's different.
Any talk of Argentina having a claim to them because they are only 300 mile away is just silly.
Imagine the row on here if England had won and the players danced on the pitch with a banner saying "The Falklands are British". Lol.
That said anyone in England calling for visas being revoked over the issue is insane.

Yes and if every country claimed the country next to it because it was only 300 miles from its country then there would be conflicts left right and center.. The Malvinas or Falklands was owned by others (France, Spain, Britan) long before Argentina became a country.. I'm not sure of the make up of the country, nor do I care if I'm being honest, how many Argentinian natives live there now and before 1982?

I think the Brits kicked everyone out after at the time of Argentina becoming a nation from Spain and then wanted their territories, which is a bit rich.. The country is too small to be independent and probably too important to the UK in the future to give up.. Do they have elections?

And what about countries claiming territory as far away as 7,000 miles away? Could that lead to conflict too?

What's the threshold for what's acceptable and not acceptable? What distance? Guessing it's somewhere between 300 and 7000 mile going by your last few posts.

Bear in mind, 12 mile seperate Ireland and Britain at the narrowest point.

Probably have a decent chance at the next Euros in England to be fair.

Why are you asking me? Milltown is the one suggesting that countries claiming territory within 300 miles is the reason for war in the world, rather than the ones claiming territories 7,000 miles away.

He's probably right though. Colonialists are just getting a bad rap. Clearly Las Malvinas are in Britain's geographical hinterland so it's definitely hard to see what Argentina's problem is really:

All countries have a right to self governance, its no more Argentinean than it is British no matter the distance between them.. Let them sort out their own issues and carry out a referendum that way there is no conflicts

I've no doubt the Argentineans feel that this is their own land as it was Spain's before that so after gaining independence they feel they own it from that point.. But its a bit rich? Considering no one from Argentina lived there?

The rationale behind the Argentine invasion of the Falklands should give anybody pause for applauding it. A right wing military junta led by human rights abusers invaded for political and nationalist interests. They assumed nobody would oppose them (they didn't like people opposing them - as evidenced by the disappearance of thousands of opponents during the Dirty Wa).

Not sure which of Piers Morgans two tweets was the funniest with England 1-0 up.

Is Messi playing?

Piers Morgan
This has been a Tuchel tactical masterclass. Take us home, Thomas!

Cunny Funt

Ultimately England got as far and did as well as expected in this competition. Needing to beat the defending World Cup champions was a bridge too far.

Main downfall for them last night was scoring too early, Argentina was always going to throw their lot at it and it was the 3rd game in a row that England used what we have we hold tactics.

In the end no matter how many defenders England finished games with they haven't been good enough defensively, the defending for the first Argentina goal to give Enzo Fernández that time and room to shoot was poor the 2nd goal was even worse, Messi left completely unmarked to pick out a cross and Lautaro Martínez able to get in the middle of two six foot plus defenders to head home the winner.

Was said reading back on this thread "only a matter of time before England win a major tournament"  I can't see it unless they discover some top quality defenders in the years ahead, at the moment the best defenders in the Premier League aren't English. Need a lot more from their midfield also, with protecting the defence and retaining possession.  Declan Rice might have the excuse of a long season with Arsenal but he looked fairy average throughout this World Cup.

As for the final given the controlling possession game and how organised Spain are defensively it's probably for the best that Argentina take the lead or you could see similar to the Spain v France match.
