Yes it was a penalty and a square ball.
For me the ball was over the line for Dublin but we will never know for sure without goal line technology.

Refs need to make split decisions on sometimes unfavourable line of sight angles so wrong calls are understandable.

But after having the benefit of time and multiple replay angles, I really don't understand how anyone can say it was a definite penalty. If anyone got charged in the chest it was the Dublin player. And that's a stretch too. Whoever sees a foul in there may as well make it a no contact sport.

The 3 big disputed calls
- Penalty? Many people think it was a penalty, many people think it wasn't.  Therefore, it's hard to say he definitely made a mistake on this one.
- Square ball goal - definintely a square ball, but sure it's the umpires that should be watching for this? Obviously cawley should be watching it too and maybe he could have called it, but the first responsibilty is with the umpires here 
- 'Ghost goal' - How in the name of all that's holy can the ref be blamed for 'missing' this in real time? With the benefit of replays, still images and 48hours later, it's still not 100%  clear if the ball was over the line or not. You can argue that the umpires should have seen it, but even that is harsh imo. But the ref certainly couldn't call it  from out the field.


I'm no fan of cawleys's but let's be fair to the man too.
