Quote from: marty34 on July 12, 2026, 09:17:12 AMThere's Tally working with Mayo and in All-Ireland Final.  Playing a nice style of football.

Derry let him go/pushed him out too early.

Mayo mightn't win AI but have progressed well under Moran and Tally's input, I'm sure, is a big part of it.

Devlin in a semi final with Louth as well. Management made mistakes this year but the players need to start taking responsibility. The talent is there. But we are heading towards becoming the team of the 2020's that threw it all away.

McMahon out for Dubs. Oh dear.

Seanie O'Shea starts at 14 with Paul Geaney in reserve.

Is there a league semi-finals with top 4 this year?

Big win for Kilrea in the relegation battle with Limavady, Faughanvale and  Screen all losing.

In the topic of coaches, Tally is defensive coach and is having big impact.
Mayo have top class forwards, Louth and Gavin Devlin have Ronan O Neill in there.

Even look at Wicklow and how their forwards play with Mc Convilles management/coaching.
Donegal - Colm Mc Fadden,
Kerry - Kieran Donaghy
Dublin - Dean Rock

We need a forwards coach if we are to have any hope. Benny Heron was good solid Derry servant but realistically how can he coach Mc Guigan, Murray, Doherty, Cassidy. Every one of them lads know they are better players than him added into the fact he has no previous coaching experience.

Before the pile on of "are you saying you can't coach if you've never played", absolutely not what I'm saying but you can't coach the players you played with.

Who is there to bring in, Enda Muldoon?

Pretty sure that both McFadden and Rock are coaching players they played with.

There was more to the post than the I'm smarter moment you attempted to pick.
The point remains valid.

Dean Rock was one of the best forwards on one of best teams to ever play the game.

Colm Mc Fadden is/was a better inside forward than anything they currently have.

Benny Heron without being derogatory played for Derry for 11 years, There was no team ever who put a plan in place to nullify his influence. May sound harsh but its true.

I think it runs deeper than that. We won underage All Irelands where the football was handpassed up the pitch and we used superior athleticism and organisation to win. We showed little imagination or variation and limited use of inside forward play, with only Lachlann Murray and Conall Higgins bucking that trend in those sides.
With the new rules we are lacking these forwards as they have all been over-coached in ways that suited the old game. The same thing happened with our u20 this year even under the new rules, when we met good teams that we couldn't run over the top of we looked visibly lost at times.
The same thing applies with our club football too, unfortunately.

I would hope that the backroom staff will get overhauled in the the off-season. There is little doubt that there's a lack of a brains trust there and some too familiar with current players.  Perhaps the setup was rushed for the season just gone. I don't buy it that Derry players can't adapt to the new rules just like other county players have done with much less underage success. It's up to management to dictate style and tactics with proper coaching and bringing players on.

Pretty sure Conleith Gilligans name was mentioned on here a few times but no one latched onto it.

Exceptionally highly rated as forwards coach in Armagh and just about everywhere else!!

Stephen O'Neill, Tony Mc Entee, Kevin Brady, Stephen Quinn from Errigal Ciaran. Marty Clarke, James Horan,

And Gilligan obviously

We have to look outside the box here.

Some of them names are 'bigger' than Ciaran Meenagh?
