At least the state sponsored death star  won't win it.

It's a penalty and red card against Rice for a rugby tackle no matter what else is going on. Joke.

Occurred after the foul on Raya, player also never went to ground.

Far more of a foul than the "foul" on Raya.

He was having his shirt pulled by one player and arm across him from another player.

Every pundit on there was asked and said it was a foul. Even Neville who hates Arsenal said it's a foul. At this point just support City if youse want them too win that bad

Neville's loved Arsenal for a few seasons have you not been listening to him

It probably is a foul on the keeper but a lot of Arsenal goals have been allowed to stand over the past few years for similar

Rice was fouling Somerville and switched to fouling Mavrapanos just before Raya was fouled. You don't have to go to ground to get a penalty.

I don't know what other fouls were going on at the time. The FA really need to do something about the fouling that goes on at set piece time. A lot of it seems to happen when Arsenal are playing.

It's one of the (evergrowing collection of) odd things about football, definitely English football anyhow, that they've as good as managed to eliminate all contact from the game, apart from on corner kicks.

Look at the one they scored against United first day of the league. Far more of a "foul"

Said before say only 3 from each team allowed in the 18yd area and none in the 6yd area when corner taken makes it easier to spot fouls

Call it the Arsenal rule or something. Saying as they've ruined soccer the same way McGuiness ruined the GAA

Quote from: statto on May 10, 2026, 06:58:06 PMThought was harsh originally but on watching the replay it's a foul. There would need be some type of directive coming from refs in advance of next season in relation to the continuous pulling and dragging at corners and maybe make an example of a few teams not complying in early weeks of season.

I'm not sure that would work because the potential penalties (pun intended) are very different. If you are harsh on punishing pulling then it encourages attackers to pull because the worst that will happen is a free out but for defenders the consequences are terrible.

I'd simply book every player who pulls. That's the only way I can think might stamp it out.

It was a foul but it's the consistency that pisses people off. Arsenal had started this earlier in the season of lumping the ball in and making it a Royal Rumble. A lot of goals should have been disallowed this season for Arsenal but went.

This initially seems quite a sensible solution.

But would it not just result in Arteta's pure footballers / brave warriors moving all their handbags to the edge of the box instead? And of so, it wouldn't solve anything. There's still be fouls everywhere before/during/after the corner kick is delivered.

The big problem for soccer is that it probably has to resolve itself with either an "anything goes" or a "nothing goes" approach to refereeing. I'd have no preference for either style. All I'd hope is that it's done blanket by all referees and all games, and that the FA don't change their guidance after a few games. Ride the choice out for a full season and see if it corrects itself, and if not, then it'll be easier to implement more dissuasive rules.

Did Raya not foul initially by pushing?

I know what you're saying but surely it would mean less congestion in the 6yd box and ref could keep better eye on it all

Or no attackers in the box, they can just run in when ball kicked. Would mean zero jostling

I dunno, but this current setup is a shambles. Wrestling match
