Does anyone else think its ridiculous that Cavan, Down and Westmeath don't know which championship they will be playing in in 2 or 3 weeks time.

Should it be changed that this years leagues and provincial championships determine what championship you will be in year after instead of this year.

This way you know what championship you will be playing in pre-season of that year and can plan accordingly.

It is providing extra motivation for Down and Westmeath.  Both provincial championships have benefited.

What about the counties now on the sideline, which could be bounced if either reach a provincial final?  That's the hard part.  Is Cavan the only one on the "bubble"?

Armagh18

It's not ideal but I think it's better than using results from the year before, I think results from this year are a fairer reflection of where say Down are vs last years league results. It's all Kildares fault for being so shite in the league :D

I've heard that the draw for the round 1 games will be made this weekend once the 8 provisional finalists are known. Can anyone clarify if this is correct.

Makes sense. Wasn't it meant to be yesterday before Down upset the applecart

Sorry folks I was talking about the All Ireland series not the Tailteann Cup, apologies.

Luke Loughlin out for the year. Good boost for Kildare/Down

That's a pity - a top notch forward.

Westmeath well struggle in Tailteann without him. A massive loss.

First part , if you're plying your trade in Div 3 or near the bottom of Div 2 (with the TC winner the year before having a place in the AI) these counties will know the permutations

The 2nd part, do you plan differently for TC or the AI? If anything and Down showed this at the weekend where you've a foot in both camps so to speak, you'll push even harder?

It adds some extra excitement and jeopardy

Having the system in a few years now and teams have had a chance to go up or down in league is there an argument that maybe league and championship should be seperated? So relegation play off in championship and Tailteann winner goes up like club championships.

The link between the Provincial Championships and the All-Ireland Championship creates an unlevel playing field.
Rewarding provincial finalists with a place in Sam Maguire competition takes no account of provincial imbalance.

Connacht and Munster counties can qualify for Provincial Final by winning one game.
This one game can involve a Division 1 team defeating a Division 4 team.
In contrast Leinster and Ulster counties may need to win 3 games to qualify for their Provincial Final.

Provincial Championships should be stand alone competitions.
