Quote from: Armagh18 on April 09, 2026, 10:13:09 AMBB2, I would say blocking any and all traffic (exceptions for ambulances obviously) is a valid form of protest. Not sure how else the government will pay any heed.

Protesting is making your point in public. Blocking roads is simply coercion, they have no right whatsoever to involve third parties.

Quote from: tyroneStatto on April 09, 2026, 10:27:12 AMwhat is the best way to persuade governments to cut tax on fuel?

Vote for a party that has that a policy, if they win then they will be the government. But the majority of people do not want to cut the price of fuel in general, so you might be out of luck.

How do you work that out? Must be some amount of folk then sitting pretty with loads of disposable income.
What political party has slashing tax and excise on fuel as a policy position?

The high tax on fuel in Europe is a deliberate policy to reduce the effects of price variations.
But whatever your income, tax has to be collected on something, and people may think fuel as good as the alternative.

I wonder what services those morons want cut back to pay for reducing fuel duties?

Or is it "Its all the fukn Governments fault and we need to get rid of them"
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

They could cut VAT for a start and still be lifting the same amount

Captain Scarlet

There is a choice voice note going around allegedly from one of the main men involved essentially say F Them C's! The C's being people annoyed over missing appointments and other things.

Paul Murphy went to chat them and was ran - he was asked about Dublin stabbings and LGBT stuff...

Then you have an Irish MEP talking about tanks on the streets when the Defence Forces have clarified they were on their way to a UN exercise. But the X patriots from the UK and USA are all over that.

Like it not some of these lads are dumb! They are hardy bucks back home, but are not able to run a show like this and they have no control.

A lad was on Virgin News giving out and then says he voted FG! And most farmers do as well, so take it up with them. They are looking for medals for letting ambulances through.

They are playing right into the Government's hands with all this. Everyone is annoyed over fuel and energy prices but these lads are just doing their own thing and they are not even sure what is being done in their name from town to town.

them mysterons are always killing me but im grand after a few days.sickenin aul dose all the same.

This sounds very unlikely. If you cut VAT then you just lose revenue.

And then of course there's the issue of what happens when it gets added back on when prices fall. No doubt be another crying match.

Fairly sure it won't be farmers welfare.

These types always want the services they don't use cut.

Eh?

Petrol isn't an elastic good. People don't buy more because it's cheap.

if i use 100 litres a week and its a euro per litre (net) then 23% is €23 of vat.
If its €2 per litre (net) and i still buy 100 litres then €46 in vat they get.

What has that statement of the bleeding obvious got to do with your claim that cutting a vat rate brings in more vat?
