A teenage boy with autism has been euthanised in the Netherlands.

Had a quick skim through the article...liveaction, no idea who they are but with their 'key takeaways' and warnings, must be pro life or the like, there's definitely a fairly political slant to that article?

It's based off a recent interview with one of the Dutch doctors in the Atlantic.

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/03/oosterhoff-netherlands-teen-euthanasia/686344/

There also a reference to this recent article in physchiatric times which refers to "surging levels of euthanasia" amongst minors.

 https://www.psychiatrictimes.com/view/psychiatric-euthanasia-in-the-netherlands-young-people-procedural-medicine-and-the-limits-of-psychiatry

"That professional restraint has weakened rapidly over the past several years. What had long been treated as a theoretical possibility has become an organized clinical pathway. Requests for euthanasia on psychiatric grounds have risen sharply, with a disproportionate increase among young adults and, more recently, minors. The Dutch model, once presented internationally as careful and balanced, is now attracting attention for a different reason: growing uncertainty about whether psychiatry has crossed a boundary it cannot coherently justify.1,2"

That last link didn't give us one example from the person or their family and doctors as to why they have agreed to these planned deaths.

Absolutely no way of knowing their stories or situations which have brought them to this final choice.

I'd say take a days walk in their shoes before making judgements..

He obviously did and quite possibly picked out this bit ....'pleas to end "unbearable" suffering from any medical condition—provided there is no "prospect of improvement" and no "reasonable alternative" to dying' hence his reply .

Looked into that Live Action website...'Live Action is an advocacy group focused on opposing abortion and influencing public opinion and policy on that issue'

I couldn't open the link, but I'll try tomorrow, this isn't a black and white subject though and everyone knows that.

Coming at it with a pro life viewpoint or coming at it with a pro choice viewpoint won't allow it to be sensibly debated

A teenage boy with autism has been euthanised in the Netherlands.
Even that biased, activist article doesn't claim he was 'euthanised' because of his autism.

Even that biased, activist article doesn't claim he was 'euthanised' because of his autism.

The ultimate conclusion was that the doctor's decision to euthanize a mentally ill child was acceptable and sound, with multiple other health care practitioners agreeing that the boy should be euthanized

Why did you put euthanised in inverted commas?

Not sure where to put this.

It's almost like they want it to turn violent.

Maybe the government take a few pence off the excise duty. They're coining it in on that.

This could go 2 ways - public opinion was going against the blockage I think. May change depending on what happens now.

We, in a way, have an interest in getting lower fuel prices.

The government has cut excise duty, so is taking less tax. Everyone would like lower fuels prices but if tax is not collected there then it has to be collected somewhere else.
