The only positive thing is, if it goes ahead, hopefully it'll put the topic to be bed once and for all.

Agree - that's the likeliest outcome but it depends on how stubborn those behind the motion are.

Stupid and stubborn if they don't withdraw the motion tonight.

If it's withdrawn they can come back next year with a modified motion while if it's beaten tonight they can't come back for I believe at least 3 years.

Malachy Clerkin: The GAA's split season is a success – so why are we still debating it?

Exactly!
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

Motion has been withdrawn. So HQ will be back again next year with a compromising motion.

On other motions

We'll have replays after provincial finals finish level after extra-time.

No return of Minor All-Ireland final in Croke Park before the senior final.

GPA motion to make the intercounty season 30 weeks has passed.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Duffy pulled the motion...aided by Burns.

Vote should have went ahead.

When you see it's fronted by Mr Duffy you knew he wasn't going to allow any vote until he got his way, that's the same chap that tried for years to scrap the U21 football championship before finally succeeding.

Can you explain  pulled the motion?

Are you saying  the suits can  shoot down/throw out any motion  they don't like?

With a heavy defeat inevitable, Duffy requested the motion to be withdrawn, approved by Burns despite an appeal from Bellew for it to take place.

From Niall Mc Coy on RTÉ.

My take on it is if it took a heavy defeat today, which was clearly the way it was going...motion will never been seen again.

This way, it can, driven by Duffy and certain elements, be brought up again.

No the motion was pulled by those behind it.

A motion would only be thrown out if it didn't make any sense or conflicted with some othe rule or for some other technical reason like that.

Pat Spillane must of written his 100th article on why the split season is wrong. Then again he must written for 20 years that the blanket defence was dung.

Long and the short of it is that Pat's a wee daftie.

He was mildly entertaining as a pundit, but never for insight.

The man - it seems - just happened to have a remarkable engine and never stopped running for his footballing career. At a time when nobody else could run like him.

Everything he's done since suggests he doesn't know how or why he ran. He just ran and ran, and good things happened.

Because there's as little as no evidence at all that he understands the game, or the association.
