The real town

Not half I would say about 20 percent.plenty of buildings happening in portarlington at the minute all the laois end.

The cranks might be a bit quieter this week. You'd have to be very proud of this group of Laois footballers the past few weeks, Wexford hiccup aside. And in Justin we have a very noble man who has the respect of the players. It's a shame we left a result behind against Limerick and Clare, but all in all we're motoring nicely with a strong panel.

Butch Cassidy

Huge win tonight against our bogey team over the years. Ignoring the Wexford game, Laois are motoring nicely and the new lads are putting their hands up. Hopefully they can finish out the league well and bring some momentum into the championship

Good to have Kirwan back, brings great pace and power. Galvin a good foil for Evan inside, good ball winner and can pop over a few scores too. Just need to tighten up at the back but all in all, a great evening

Excellent performance Saturday evening.  Laois clearly very motivated from the start and I think our somewhat aggressive manner stung Westmeath .
Kirwin possesses all the attributes at inter county and good to see him back along side Fingelton.  Crucial for those two to stay injury free for a good TC  run.
Fermanagh and Down away now . Avoid a slip up against Fermanagh and Down more than likely will have nothing to play for ..

Westmeath crowd outnumbered Laois 3 to 1 id say but this is where we are at the moment. A lot of apathy about for obvious reasons but the players and Mcnulty deserve better support .

An unexpected result to say the least. Hard to know where Laois are at considering the bad defeat the Wexford. They do have to finish the league strongly to back up this performance.

If they do that they'll be going into the championship in decent shape.

The PRO

Yeah, a performance out of the blue. Team seems very inconsistent. Hope we can put wins back to back next time out.
Kirwan and Fingleton coming back is a big boost. Ben Dempsey would be a big help too. I know I'm terrible guilty of naming lads that aren't involved but imagine adding Mark Barry, Fitzpatrick and Niall Dunne to that attack!

Laois Rising

Add those three in and you have a set of forwards that could score you enough to really challenge for a Tailteann Cup. McNulty has got a number of serious performances from these lads in the wake of the Wexford debacle. With 14 players against Clare competed very well and they upped their performances levels again Saturday evening and caught Westmeath who did not bring the same intensity to proceedings.

Still will need one more victory to ensure safety. Sligo have two home games remaining and you wouldn't put it past them to win one of those games. Limerick have Fermanagh at home in the last game and on current form you would favour Limerick for that game. 5 points therefore might not be enough to ensure safety so hopefully can carry the momentum built up into the next game with Fermanagh.

Great win to be fair to them, well done to players and management.

Problem
Inconsistency in our Performance.

Poor against Limerick.
OK against a poor Sligo team.
Dreadful against Wexford.
Bad (sending off) and Good against Clare.
Very good against Westmeath.

What team will turn out against Fermanagh and Down, I wonder ?

One thing I see there is a great attitude and spirit in all the players, which is good.

County Man

One of the best and most complete performances from a Laois team in the league for 6 or 7 years.

From start to finish, the intensity and effort was remarkable. New lads Jake Darcy and Darren Brennan did very well. Great to see Pa Kirwan back.

That is 3 decent performances in a row where we were outsiders in all. Odds of 3/1 against both Sligo and Westmeath in our home pitch.

Fermanagh away next will be a tough assignment. Hopefully we can continue our good form and get a result.

Well done to all involved. Once division 3 status is secured, we can look to Leinster championship and Offaly in Tullamore.

Ultimately the aim has to be a strong challenge in the Tailteann cup in May/June and see where it takes us.

Sideline12

Just when you think we're turning the corner, it all blew up on our face again.

The Boy Wonder

#101
A frustrating campaign
Poor enough start drawing at home to Limerick
Hammered by Wexford
Comfortable win over Sligo
Costly sending-off against Clare but spirited rally fell short
Very good win against Westmeath
Costly sending-off against Fermanagh but spirited rally fell short

Fermanagh rock bottom until Doctor Laois comes to town.

It makes me think of Eminem's song. Can the real Laois Shady please stand up.?

Laois Rising

The league has pretty much played out as many expected. We are a lower to mid ranked division 3 side who are capable of defeating other division 3 sides when we produce a performance but equally capable of being defeated by any other team in that division if we are any way off the pace. Relegation, while unlikely, is still on cards as Sligo could produce a performance in their last home league game and Limerick will give Fermanagh a right crack in Rathkeale. We just need to avoid a drubbing off of Down and we will be in Division 3 for next year. Staying up and being competitive in our games was probably the height of our potential in this division and we have achieved that (bar one game). The sending offs cost us badly but despite this, we struggled around the middle versus Fermanagh and winning primary possession. Still think this team have a strong chance of being in the shake up for the Tailteann Cup. Despite, Barry's loss we should have enough scoring power to compete.

Good win?
How close to full strength were Down?
