Eire Og heavy favourites for junior league and championship double. Heard they are flying under new management.

Quote from: Round or stuffed on February 26, 2026, 01:01:30 PMGort also won a Minor Grade 2 and U21 Grade 2 championship last year and have a very promising young side coming through, hopefully will see the dividend of the hard work and tough decisions that have been made in the last few years

Gort for senior then  :D  :D  :D

Only joking. They've deserved the drop two years in a row according to the rules no matter where they ended up in the league last year so I think predicting them to be relegated is justified.

Fond of the Gort lads but not good enough for Intermediate

Big appointment there - did Dunloy retain their management ? im sure they were highly sought after

NorthAntrimSaff

Id imagine so after a county title?? Thats the attitude of the GAA now sadly. Lead your club to a championship and people think you'd leave to take another team and chase a few quid

belfastsaff

apologies i was talking about the outside coach that was brought in - was he retained

NatSoSaff

I wonder how much the injury to Deccy Smith will hit Dunloys chances. I'd forgotten about that. It's a serious injury to come back from and he was crucial to them last year. Mick McCanns retirement will be of equal if not more impactful on Cargin. There could well be more of the older hands hanging up the boots there in addition to that. I agree with the previous poster that Matthew and Conor Downey returning to Lavey wont be as significant a loss to St.Brigids as has been made out.

Cue the ridicule, but I think I'm convincing myself it might just be Creggans year!  ;D

How do you work that out, the rules called for a relegation playoff between the lowest ranks teams in each championship group, Antrim chose two years in a row not to fix that playoff game, so if Gort should have been relegated, then so should Lisburn, who finished in the same position two years in a row

Casements to finally break their duck - no point in saying otherwise. Saying that more in expectation than hope, usually it was the other way round. Mattie to make the difference!

But so many roadblocks to get through, really any of the top 8 could beat any of others on a given day.

Never been more interesting, and intermediate much the same.

We've heard this before. McKeever was the man to lead them to the promised land also as far as I mind.

Will Mattie manage the egos inside and outside the wire??

Any insight on if non- match day squad players will be released from county squad to play for club in league on a week by week basis rather than kicking their heels?

Maybe I'm wrong but weren't Gort supposed to be relegated two years ago only LLL didn't want to come up and same again this year.

Not that the county didn't fix the game but more consulted with LLL again.

Then this year, you might have ended up mid table in the league but you got 1 point in the intermediate championship and you were beaten by "the obvious choice for relegation" twice in two years in the Intermediate Championship.

I think I remember against Sarsfields two years ago you scoring 3 points against them.

Anyway as I said, I like the Gort lads. Just don't think you belong in the Intermediate or in Div 2 and the stats prove that no matter what you have coming through.

A championship group stage is a load of shite and when Antrim realise that they might be in a better place, Aldergroves relegation through the championship a farce too, and for the record, Gort and Davitts drew in 2025, davitts are obvious candidates based on league position last year, and there was never to be a relegation between bottom of intermediate championship and runner up in Junior, there was to be one between lowest place teams in each group, which even the powers that be in Antrim realised was a complete balls, so it never happened.

I heard a few squad players moved to Eire Og from Lisburn & that the Randalstown manager was directing the EO training for the manager( triple jobbing ?)
Also heard Conor Murray now coaching Lisburn.

Dixon, Mulholland and Aaron Thompson transferred from Lisburn to Eire Og, think Aaron is there as player/manager

Only Eoin Dixon was regular starter last season but had some injury issues. When fit and focused he is great and Lisburn will miss his scoring ability, along with Ruadhan mckenna (goalkeeper). Both hit a lot of scores, particularly 2 pointers and frees last season. Red is finished at d2 level so a move into coaching/management was coming, especially  since he looked after the Lisburn reserves last year. Him and knux go way back to playing with St Teresa's, so it's not surprising  that knux might give him a few training  drills/sessions from his back catalogue, but saying triple jobbing is harsh! Lol. For Lisburn, my worry would be squad depth, as they have lost 4/5 from last year- but have picked up a few new faces as well, so they may be ok depending on their quality, but there were times last season that there wasn't much of a bench and at least 2 of them have moved on now.
