I can't wait for March.

I realise that it has been known since the format was decided but having to wait until the end of March to plan a trip to the World Cup starting in June is not very fan friendly.

It's in the USA. You'd not be able to plan anything until the group draws are done.

The last time it was in the US, qualification was sorted in November and the draw was in December. This time the draw is in December and Ireland will know their potential group but not know for sure if they will be in it until March.

Great couple of results for Ireland never say die attitude today. On the winner, underated involvement from Kelleher who puts a great flight on the ball for Scales to flick ball on and cause panic in the box. Really enjoyable games over the last few days normally find international break abit of a slog.

The big one is Wales.  Assuming Austria do the business as expected, a point for Niryh Macedonia would eliminate Wales and push us into Pot 2.

Don't taint the memory by watching the rest of the match. Even after the equaliser for 2-2 in the 80tj minute it was a frustrating 10 minutes of Hungary time wasting and Ireland giving away stupid foul after stupid foul, Festy and Idah looking like competition winners and not looking like scoring until the Kenny chance in injury time.

Epic finish that will live long in the memory. The goal was so reminiscent of the Keane goal v Germany in 2002.

New FIFA rankings will come out Wed before draw on Thursday. However there's sites like footranking.com that do live rankings and only moved is up to 60 and I'd say Slovakia losing to Germany (may beat them too) would only drop them down a few spots.

Will FIFA rig the draw again when it looks like a  big  gun might not qualify? . I remember they  did  it  in 2009  to  make it easier for France to qualify

Looking at FIFA website there are 16 teams to get whittled down to 4, so 2 rounds of playoffs?

The continent's four remaining berths will then be settled in a 16-team UEFA play-off competition involving the 12 group runners-up and four best-ranked UEFA Nations League section winners who did not finish in the top two of their World Cup qualifying groups.

The 16 teams will be drawn into four play-off paths, each featuring four teams, with single-leg semi-finals and finals taking place in March 2026.
