Quote from: North Man on November 13, 2025, 08:38:22 AMDamian Mc Erlain and his team has alot of talent to work with this year.
James Sargent is gone, hopefully he will take his time and recover properly.
Willie John Bradley and Conrad Mullan have had a good club season with Glenullin.
Canavan and Campbell?? Steelstowm
Dungiven lads, Paul Harron, Murphy and Higgins??, O'Neill and O'Kane.
Then throw in Chris Mc Cullagh, Blaine Mc Daid and Joe Bryson

Reading through the senior team selections, there's definitely a bit of bias showing.
For example:

Picking lads based mainly on the team that won back-to-back championships. What some of the older boys could do two years ago doesn't automatically mean they can do it now under the new rules, which demand far more high-paced running.

Selections that lean towards their club men.

The reality is we need to see how the McKenna Cup and National League actually play out. Let the players earn their spots, and let the management pick the boys who are in the right physical and mental shape for championship football.

Most importantly Meenagh deserves our backing. After a couple of years of uncertainty around the management setup, we finally have stability again so he needs to be given the trust to do things properly. From everything I have heard about him, he is a honest man who knows his stuff.

I'm also hearing positive things: a new gym, better medical setup and a great panel with a blend of young, hungry players alongside the battle-hardened men who know what it takes. We're in a good position to push forward again after two seasons where we slipped backwards.

And finally support. At our last National League game in Armagh, you'd have been lucky to count 50 Derry supporters. That can't happen again. This team deserves better from all of us.

Luke Barrett is set to link up with Ciarán Meenagh and the Derry senior football management team for the 2026 campaign.

Ex-Donegal selector Barrett - who most recently coached Loughmacrory to the Tyrone senior club championship -  had stepped away from his role with Donegal back in September to "pursue further education."

Via Derry now, didnt seen his name mentioned before

With Owenbeg being a further drive than Convoy I would be fairly confident the extra 'mileage money' made his mind up for him no doubt.

I'd be interested in his role, described as a selector but so is Martin Boyle. I've seen Barrett described as a coach, selector and performance coach before so I'm not sure. He always seemed to be stuck in Jim's ear on the side line

Topmarks

I would be hoping Ruairi Forbes can take another step and get a good run in the league to push for a start. We need our best athletes in the middle 8.

Anyone know how James Sargent is getting on with his rehab?

I would also agree with an earlier post, the lad Conrad Mullin for Glenullin looks a player. Hadn't came across him before, anyone know much about him

I Listened to Mals interview with Michael O'Kane on Derry Gaels Podcast  and he was saying Mullan was still 17

haven't heard of his name since he sent slaughtneil chasing after a referee in glenulin early to mid 2000s.

It's padraig that will be playing for u20s.

Derry Optimist

I think most of us who have proposed  the names of  players, to be included for the McKenna Cup panel at least, have probably forgotten a few. I know that I  have. Ryan Mulholland and Ciaran Hendry of Lavey, Cormac Murphy of Magherafelt and former Derry minor captain Ryan McNicholl, who has been playing well for Glenullin, should be worthy of consideration
.
Finally with the addition of Luke Barret to the Derry management team, we now have a total of at least five selectors/coaches. Is there not a danger of indecisive management decisions on the field of play when there are so many voices to be listened to during a match? Or will match day decisions be confined to Ciaran Meenagh and two others?

Anyone have a list of next years panel?

I don't think its unusual to have a coaching team of 5/6 these days.
Forwards coach, defensive coach, GK coach, S&C, Manager....probably more. Ultimately decisions and responsibility sits with Meenagh.
He's well capable and I'm looking forward to this season.

Plenty of strong players coming through this year, others returning from injury that weren't available last year and a mcKenna cup to do the groundwork and test players out before the league starts.

So will rodgers be suspended for mckenna cup since he was sent off in the last final

Hopefully Slaughtneil are still in the Hurling so he'll be unavailable anyway... be deserving of a break even if they aren't, save him for the league

jb77

Rogers should be brought in after a couple of rounds of league, although I suppose we want to be back in divison 1.
