Gallipoli to the Aussies/Kiwis  seems to be as significant as  the Somme is to unionists.

Eric Bogles 'And the band played Waltzing Matilda' is one of the greatest anti-war songs ever based on the Gallipoli campaign. Great divide within Aussies about the poppy.

Was my daughters 6th party and saw a wee girl I'm a soft play place no more than 3 years old with a poppy. What's that about?  And FWIW I'd say the same about a lily at Easter

I mean, why not? We put Chrism and stuff on newborn babies when they (and often their parents) haven't a notion what's going on.

Agreed,  doesn't make it right.

Duine Inteacht Eile

Indeed, but is it really wrong?

My children from they were very young have worn clothing with the face and name of a man who, for many, gave his life for Ireland. Yet, for many others, you get the picture....

It's just our club jersey though and we don't overthink it. And, perhaps, when you do....you lose.

quit yo jibbajabba

You don't parade chrism round a soft play area to try score points ffs

Out in the cathedral quarter tonight (and last weekend funny enough). A lot of people solemnly remembering while getting rubbered.

Yet we drown the shamrock.
Coming out of Lent on Easter Sunday, head to toe in Lily, we refrain. For Ireland.

I admire your commitment to your research on the phenomenon of the wearing of the poppy whilst imbibing the Devil's buttermilk.

I was at the self build event yesterday at Eikon Centre and there weren't many on show. Any that were displayed were the little badge type. I didn't see any  exhibitors wearing them
Careful now

You walked around a self-build show clocking who was wearing a poppy and what size they were?
